Astley Arms — Restaurant in Tameside

Lytham Rambling Club After a long day walking in the Peak District above Crowden, 53 hungry and tired ramblers had a pre arranged meal at the Astley Arms . Apprehensive, as it was our first visit we arrived on the coach to what was a great welcome and lovely ambience .We quickly got our drinks and was ready for our richly deserved meal. We didn't need to worry , the meals were quickly dispatched from the kitchen with a smile on the faces of the waiting staff, all eager to please. The various choices were all well received , plentiful and well presented . All fresh, local produce at a price that more than reasonable .

The members were all complimentary about the venue , staff and the food . We are sure to return next time we are walking in this area . Thank you Paul and the team .

Extra impressive to find out that Paul and his wife have only just taken over at the Astley Arms and this was their first big catering...

Can't recommend, bar manager charges prices higher the more drunk he thinks you are, rounds went from £12 odd to £15 odd an varied like that depending on which one of us went an got the drinks. Miserable staff the lady staff member was attempting to be nice before the bar manager guy somewhat attempted to whisper "oh don't let the suits fool you, there still common as muck". Like that's what you want to hear after a funeral an at awake, especially when family's pouring hundreds of pounds into the place within the next 3 hours. But maybe he had a bad childhood an his daddy gave him too much attention "of the bum kind" or maybe not enough of it. Overall poor choice of beer, high prices. No entertainment even on a normal night, only get treated like a human if you're an alcoholic regular, as what the bar man didn't know is we know his little bum chum in the corner, an he wasn't paying no...

Excellent food and service - food took a while but we were told that there would be quite a wait after we ordered - as there was a wedding on upstairs and the kitchen was catering for the wedding group too.

Really love that most meals come with veg or salad sides! I love my veggies so on top of the peas that came with my scampi, I also ordered a side of seasonal veg. Fab that that's an option! Makes a pub meal feel healthier too 😉 (though as far as pub meals go this was pretty healthy anyway! Everything fresh and food isn't greasy at all!)

Chips were to die for! Big chunky fluffy chips. And could taste they were cooked fresh and in fresh oil. We all loved them.

Lovely outdoor seating at the back. We went in after it started raining and indoors is lovely too! Would definitely be back to try more items on...
