Went here for my leaving do with a group of friends from my old ²works. Staff werent very attentive. I had to ask twice. raising my voice 2 times as they went round individually to ask what each person wanted. The same again when I ordered food( despite being the tallest in the group) Its as if they didnt see me! Anyway after 5 mins of serving everyone food, i realized theyd forgotton me. So j told them.I told 3 people before they seemed to acknowledge me, the last time they did. I was told i woyld have tk wait 5 mins. When the food came it was burnt in places , not sure how well they cooked it as was served up fairly quickly?but i ate as was hungry by this time . I dont know why they didnt check to see if everyone gat their meal before the strated to bring out the extras? Anyway didnt eat anything but toast the day aftee. I feel terrible! have been in bed 2 days being sick and still not able to eat/ drink. I have lost time off work too. I will not be returning to this dreadful place. I am always concious of their hygiene practices in these kind of places and now this has only...
Read morevisited tonight, never been met with such horrendous service. Went in for an anniversary meal, man behind the bar (who I think is the owner) shouted across the room asking what drinks we wanted, then came over and slammed them down on the table. Then told us we couldn't have starters as it was after 10pm, it was 9:45. When asked what the issue was, he told us we should have come in before 9pm “like most people” and that the chef didn’t like working past 10, we told him that if he didn’t want our business he should have told us he was closing before we sat down. Half way through our starter, he wanted to give us our main. During the main he arrogantly started to tell us how long hours he had been working and about inflation being tough on everyone. He was happy to bring the almost £60 bill over, not even 45 minutes after stepping foot into the establishment. Lights were turned off before we had left the building. Never again, better off visiting Mahal down the road or Herb and Spice next door. Owner should change closing time to 10 instead of 11 if he doesn’t want customers...
Read moreThis restaurant has a nostalgic charm, giving off “old school” vibes that reminded me of how Indian restaurants looked 15 years ago. It’s a small, 40-seater place with cosy energy, though the tables are on the small side.
As for the food: Poppadoms and chutneys were excellent. Starters were fresh and full of flavour. Mains were the letdown. Almost every curry was coloured red, which really took away from the dishes — especially in a karahi, where it simply isn’t necessary.
On the practical side: cleanliness wasn’t an issue, and service was efficient and helpful.
The drinks menu is very limited, which keeps with the traditional feel but may disappoint some as they don't offer mocktails etc.
They also offer a good value for money deal -£15 for any starter (some limitations), any main, and any rice / naan / chips.
Overall, it’s a neat little spot with great starters and a nostalgic atmosphere, but unless the mains are improved, I...
