The Society Rooms - JD Wetherspoon — Restaurant in Tameside

Been here a lot of times and all staff have always been really helpful and polite (especially one young man a few months back), really couldn't be politer or do enough for the customers. Unfortunately we didn't see him yesterday and our latest visit left much to be desired. It wasn't the same bar staff as I had previously seen. The woman serving us was totally lacking in customer service, she was really stern, couldn't get a smile or hint of warmth from her whatsoever, she actually just walked away mid order to serve someone else, before coming back to us. Felt we were just an irritation to her. Or she was having a bad day.. to the side of me was a customer who ordered a brandy which came in a tumbler, she asked if it could be in a brandy glass and the look of contempt on the bar staff face was unbelievable. She didnt attempt to hide it from other customers either. There was a terrible atmosphere with the bar staff. The food didn't improve the situation. Just a dry burger with limp lettuce and a pile of chips. My son's extra portion of chips was actually placed on top of my food in a bowl, and served to me like that, I mean ..really? Won't be going back to this one...

Had lunch with my friend in the lovely 'new' bit. It wasn't too crowded so we could enjoy chatting without a noisy background. The room is light and airy, shame it wasn't warm enough to sit outside in the pretty beer garden. It's a sun trap when weather decent. We both had skinny chicken burgers which were served fairly quickly as it wasn't so busy. The chicken was juicey with plenty of salad. I love the dressing used by WS. I had raspberry lemonade which I've never tried before and it was very refreshing. My friend had ginger beer, both drinks included in the price of the meal. It was served by a cheerful friendly waitress. The tables were cleared and wiped quickly which we noticed as we were there a while chatting and enjoying our refills of tea and cappuccino. We had a pleasant afternoon there. I am a regular there and I usually bring any friends there as the food is if a good standard and even if I go in by myself I don't feel uncomfortable like I would in pub. Picked Tuesday night to eat with the family . Got informed it was steak night..Nice. Been a scorcher of a day , so thought it would be rammed . Pleasant surprise , it was not. Walked into the entrance , and we were greeted by one of the members of staff. Needed a table/s to accommodate six of us. He quickly asserted that a table is available but needed cleaning. Which he commenced , once we has covid checked in. Guided to our booth and was immediately cleaned and presented with the menus . One of them included the specials , the theme of the the night Steak and mixed grills. We all ordered food with complementary drink , via the App . Considering it was very busy , we received our drinks and food within a reasonable time of around 15 mins . Ice cold drinks and delicious hot cooked food . The best bit , no one was left waiting ! . For 6 of us , majority of whom had steak meals with drinks , the price tag was only £60 all in. Bargain ! , got to love...
