This is a seriously olde pub. Dating from 16th Century so inside it has (as you would expect) "a wealth of exposed beams". This creates the atmosphere of a down to earth pub offering good ale as fair prices (ÂŁ4.50 a pint) and meals advertised as "Home Cooked" at around ÂŁ11.50 a meal.
So good value. Two real ales on offer: the "Westerham 1965". Well cellared and with that burnt flavour we all love plus "Spitfire" not tasted this time but a worthy option.
Meals were offered from the standard menu. All good fare of usual pub grub. Additionally the chalkboard of todays "Specials".
Three good offerings and the Spanish Tortilla came with a very fresh mixed salad with chips which were swapped for peas. An excellent meal but was the actual tortilla homemade?
A hearty welcome from pub team running the bar who was most kind in offering to mix & match menus as suited which was really appreciated. Offered wifi code and most welcoming.
Meal come promptly all very nice.

Read moreWhat a âgemâ this pub turned out to be. After waiting an eternity to be served, I had plenty of time to admire the bleak atmosphere. The staff didnât exactly ooze professionalism either, letâs just say âclean and polishedâ isnât the look they were going for. In fairness, the lady tried to be kind, but it didn't make up for the disappointment.
To add to the charm, random kids seemed to wander in and out of the kitchen as if it were a public footpath and a strong smell of burning food hit me when the door was open. Not exactly confidence inspiring when youâre about to eat. And speaking of the food⊠wildly overpriced for something that wouldnât even pass muster in a Wetherspoons (where, incidentally, youâd eat far better for half the price).
Overall, a thoroughly underwhelming experience, I am afraid. If youâre after good pub food, Iâd suggest...
Read moreToday was our 2nd and last visit to this pub. We arrived before 12.00noon having booked a table in advance. We had to sit in the bar section (no problem) with our dog. We were told that food would be served at 12.00noon but she was waiting for another staff member to arrive. She would bring us the menus and set up a tab. We were still waiting at 12.30pm so went up to the bar and was told by another member of staff that she hadn't been told that we would be eating there. We eventually got our food which wasn't particularly good. Furthermore, we were amazed to find debris on the carpet so, clearly, they don't employ anyone to do hoovering! A pub...
