Initially we were greeted warmly by a male member of staff, who even organised water and a treat for our elderly dog. We were asked to sit at a specific area because of him. Unfortunately the table was very high, as were the benches. They were constructed with scaffolding poles but our old boy couldn't climb over them (so that he was out of the way, which is fair enough) The staff could see us struggling, not only with him but also my 78 yr old mother, who couldn't get up onto the bench. We were made to feel very uncomfortable and were being watched without anyone offering to help or move us. I must point out, the place was virtually empty with only 2 other tables occupied that we could see... one of which had a dog but I don't believe they were dining. When the food arrived there was an item missing (luckily I'd asked for a receipt). Said item brought out without an apology. When we ordered drinks my daughter was asked to show I.D. not a problem as it's the law. 3 very young members of staff made us feel uncomfortable as they kept looking over at us throughout the meal. Eventually (whilst eating) we were asked to produce I.D for my daughter (again) and for her boyfriend. Her boyfriend (mid 20s) produced his ID and I explained that my daughter had already provided hers. The whole experience wasn't great. The food was OK, nothing special. I do hope the staff receive better training before the season gets underway. After all this is supposed to be a hospitality...
Read moreVisited The Retreat on Friday 11th Aug and sat in the bar area for food so we could watch football. I ordered fish and chips, looked lovely when it came out, but 3 mouthfuls in and it all came back up. Something was not right with this plate of food. Scott who was in charge refused to give us our money back, only offered to replace the food. Who wants to eat when they've just been sick? Wouldn't even give us a voucher for another time. Apparently had processes he needed to follow and said he would call me the following morning. He kept repeating himself over and over again saying if he refunded me it would mean they admit responsibility and i could go off to the papers! Bit far fetched! He eventually walked away. I felt seen off and still felt sick. To this day, I've not received a call. Went into reception on the Sunday to advise what had happened, they seemed shocked by what had gone on and promised to sort it out and contact me the following day. Again, I've still not heard a thing despite me following up with an email to the manager. Such a shame our holiday started off like this. Holmans Wood where we were staying dealt with this for us and gave me a £20 voucher as a goodwill gesture. Still disappointed no-one from Finlake has...
Read moreWe popped in for a roast dinner. My husband ordered the beef roast, and I ordered the nut roast but asked them to remove the nut roast as I don’t like it and it was the only veggie option. They still charged me £16 for a few potatoes and a tiny bit of veg, which is fine as I asked for it to be removed, but they could’ve added an extra carrot or something. My potato and veg came out 15 minutes after my husband’s meal, and was stone cold. The waitress then told my husband we had to get our own cutlery from downstairs, where she’d just come from. I actually thought she was joking and started laughing, she just gave me a look and walked off. The food was horrible, the cabbage literally tasted like cough medicine, and the “cauliflower cheese” was cauliflower swimming in milk or cream. The staff were cold and not helpful, they didn’t smile at all. I was going to order a cocktail, but we waited half an hour after finishing eating and still no one cleared the table, so we left. The only positive was a young lad was polite on...
