Popped in for lunch with my wife and two daughters today. Ordered 2 kids meals and 2 adult meals at the bar. Kids: Cheeseburger, Fries and Peas & Chicken Bites, Fries and Peas Adults: 2 Steak hot rustic baguette with Fries and salad. Staff were friendly and we had no wait to order. Food took 45 minutes to come out (ordered at 12:45) so the lunchtime rush but still this was a little bit too long for 4 simple meals. This kids meals were fine and hot but both steak baguettes were stone cold as were the fries. And when I say cold I mean the steak to the touch felt like it had just come out the fridge. We took these meals back to the bar where one of the staff arranged replacements quickly. 5-6 mins later new meals arrived. They were hotter but I wouldn’t say they were hot or particularly freshly cooked. Also the amount of steak in the baguette was rather lacking. And to make things worse the steak was overcooked and chewy. I considered complaining but we only had a short time left on our car parking and we’re having a nice day out so didn’t want to ruin it. The kids meals were ok for the money and I would consider giving The Boat House another chance if we were in the area again. Looking at some of the other meal’s coming out of the kitchen they did look ok. In summary: Just OK, not really a ‘Grill’ and I would say slightly overpriced considering the simplicity of the food. Friendly Staff and Nice location and atmosphere.

Dawdling around the lanes in Dawlish and we passed droves of people on holiday heading for the beach. We were house hunting but we got swept along by the tides of people. We ended up on the road to the beach passing the few grockle shops and food stores selling last minute provisions for a great day at the beach. We carried on walking and stopped at the beautiful sea side. There we watched the boats and people scattered along the beach for a while and then turned out back on the sea intending to go back to the car, however in front of us was a great pub with a balcony overlooking the sea. So as it was nearly lunchtime I decided to pop in for a bite to eat. After a short deliberation we decided on a BBQ chicken baguette with salad and crisps. Plus of course a Guinness ( well the holiday makers made us do it!!) We sat on the balcony overlooking the sea and watched the world go by. One word of caution is one side of the pub gets very windy outside and one does not. Also note that you need an umbrella up if you want to eat your food in peace and quiet from the gulls who have learned to steal very swiftly. The pub was a really lovely place and the atmosphere was of a holiday vibe. Really nice food I'm sure we will be back soon. The waitresses were nice,( the young ones were slow as can be and the older lady was speedy and efficient) . Overall a great experience. Price is relative to the area and views.

We ordered a chicken kebab and a lasagne. Both dishes were well presented and initially looked to be nice. Both came with fries which were cold. The lasagne also came with cold garlic bread. The lasagne had no flavour and was really dry. When we told the person who collected the plates, they said they would tell the kitchen but offered no resolution to us. The chicken kebabs tasted fine, but again the fries were cold. Very over priced for the disappointing experience. The person who had the chicken kebabs had visited several times previously and had never had a bad experience. However, the experience that we had this time put off me as a first time customer and I doubt I willever return. I would have a more favourable view of the restaurant if the staff actively sought to reach a resolution to the poor food. For £45, for 2 mains and 2 drinks, it is a no from me. Staff were friendly aside from the issue highlighted and our seating request was met. There were issues with them getting the booking up on their system though. Edit: we have since had contact from Sally who has arranged to compensate for the poor experience.

Ordered the drink first we (myself and the girl behind the counter ) walked to a fridge so I chose a drink after walk back and pay for it she then walks back again ...took me around 5-10 min. Ordering the food was even better ....1 girl started to take my order and when a phone rang she decided to answer it -"in the middle of ordering" so I thought it must be important 😤 another 5-6 people was behind the counter yet again it took some time to be able to finish off my order.. Nobody asked me the table number and if ever seen this place they have got a lot of tables. After we passed this tiny issue we were ready for the starters only thing were missing is cutlery and some napkins which I had to find it for myself For the main course we waited over 1 hour even though the waitress asked if we are ready for it when she took the empty plates away from the starters , and we said yes we are ready for the main course. So after an hour our main courses arrived but again with a little bit of problem... I can't eat steak and when I ordered I asked for medium not row as it came out after 1 hour 😡 They offered a new one but to be honest we didn't want to stay hours there after all , so we've got a cash refund for that meal. I wish I could say the dessert was heaven after all the negativity but NO I ate waffles many times in my life and on the menu it looked so good and delicious. We tried to stay positive and give it a go... Mistake- as the waffle was hard as they burned and some parts chewy ...

Lovely looking place with a good location but we won't eat there again Also the girls behind the counter are pretty but if they can't serve food or take order I'm not sure they good for the job . And for last, just a table away from us 2 young lad sat and they knew the girls very well. I don't mind if people talking to each other or to the stuff but I do mind when someone raising the voice or swearing, we went there to have dinner outside close to the sea , relax and enjoy None of them...

Few places leave me stunned with food service but when I popped in to the Boathouse for a quick snack two weeks ago I really wasn't expecting my food to be served within 5 minutes! After ordering and waiting for an impressive vanilla milkshake to be constructed I had just sat at the table when our food arrived! Friendly personal service from the busy smiling serving staff for whom nothing was too much trouble. When my son stopped a staff member and asked for a glass of water he was given a great reception and they can to the table to check everything else was OK. My most recent visit a week ago was similarly efficient with quick food service for several large meals for a group but my salad (requested instead of chips) was very poor with some of the bistro-type lettuce leaves already decomposed and slimy. This was obviously a major error by a member of kitchen staff as no chef would have added clearly rotting leaves to a customers plate. Previous salad had been fresh and perfect. I think maybe young kitchen staff need to understand that when people request salad it's not just too look pretty on their plate, they do actually want to eat it and enjoy fresh, crunchy leaves, not strands of slime. Putting this down to staff error and hoping the advice I sent back to the kitchen was taken seriously, more salad eating needs to be encouraged these types of restaurants and I would personally enjoy some more salad type options at...
