The pub itself has a nice oldie worldy feeling, carpark is a bit small, Waitresses that served us were lovely very attentive and polite, the roast dinner is an absolute sham, there was 22 of us and we had to order using 4 table numbers but then when the food came out they didn't use table numbers and as not stated on the menu if 2 or more people order a roast it is all slapped on the same plate together and you pick out what's yours, we had a member of our family who is Muslim and ordering a meal was difficult when information on how its presented was misleading, I have heard of marbled beef but as you can see in the picture it was more just fat, the picture shows 3 types of meat and yet looks like a plate of mess and fat, unattractive and unedible, for the price to have to share off a plate with people we were not fully know too just because we had the same table number was not the best, after we made complaints we was greeted by a disgruntled chef who came upstairs with the joint in his hand to point out it was a marbled beef which he then took back to the kitchen to continue serving, I have never met such a rude unprofessional chef in all my life who clearly does not take criticism very well. The Waitresses were professional all the way through.

Stopped in at the The Old Rydon Inn for a spot of lunch and boy was it an amazing place to stop. The food was just delicious, the staff truly delightfully and it's just such a gorgeous old pub. Can highly recommend trying the toad in the hole! From their website: The Old Rydon Inn is a grade II listed farmhouse which was part of Lord Cliffords Manor from the reign of Henry II up to the 18th century. The restaurant lounge and dining room are in the oldest part of the building and still have the original elm screens dating from the early 16th century. The restaurant, although a newer addition, is still over 150 years old and features a 50ft Well built in the middle ages. When entering the pub through the low front doorway you'll pass a lamp made from the old 'turn-screw' for the apple press, a press which apparently produced much of the cider consumed by the village! The Inn actually consists of a collection of different dining areas, each providing a unique and unforgettable experience. The Devonian name "Rydon" comes from the Old English "Ryge Dun" meaning "Hill of Rye".

This is a lovely traditional English pub in Kingsteignton with low ceilings and cosy comfortable areas to sit. It has a large under cover outdoor eating area and garden. The service on the day we visited for lunch was great. The young staff were chatty, helpful and made us feel very welcome. We ordered the Mezze platter for 2 and that was a mistake. There were several homemade dips that were bland and of a very thin consistency and the squid was not pleasant ( We think the oil probably needed changing). There was plenty of bread and butter to eat the dips with and our lovely waitress did bring us more bread! Would we return...yes definatly for a drink, but not to eat.

Roast lamb and beef and zucchini deluxe pizza. The pizza was raw in the middle and was given kitchen scissors that where dirty to use to cut the pizza, roast was for 3 people 2 ordered beef 1 ordered lamb, all meats mixed on platter with roast potatoes, stuffing ( stuffing tasted like green mucous with dried mixed herbs mixed in) and Yorkshires, one of the Yorkshires fell on the table and the waitress picked it up with her bare hands and put it back on the platter, all the food was cold and the potatoes where covered in dirty grease, also very few staff where using face masks as they should have been but where using the face shields that do not count as a face covering! Owner was very rude and aggressive when challenged about food standard, when leaving the carpark there was a marquee at the outside door to the kitchen, the door was also open with no barrier/screen to keep anything out, raw and cooked foods being prepared under the marquee outside with dishes and pans being put on floor and then others picked up and used, could see in the kitchen, looked dirty and chefs looked visibly dirty and unkempt. No social distancing in kitchen or facemasks being warn. No hand washing in the 5 mins we where watching them.

The head chef owner was not bothered buy us complaining and said he'd been there 10 years and never had a complaint . And accused us of bullying his staff as she was only14 . When we were as polite as can be in the situation . The first sentence was I'm sorry to disturb you but we need to let you know something .

When we said the potatoes were greasy and tastes greasy inside he just said he puts them in extra beef dripping they more like soaked in dripping and reaheated in microwave . He did not care that the pizza was raw in the middle and looked like a frozen pizza would .

He did wave the whole meal for us but felt like we were just getting rid of us . As if he thought his food was genuinely great he would have charged us something .

The waitresses around the corner were loudly huddled around the corner saying if they stayed where they were they would not hear the bell and would not have to serve anyone . They were also not socially distancing while chatting .

Please don't go there it was utterly dangerous disgusting food and shoddy service except the alleged 14 year old who seemed to be trying her best but was very nervous and had been accused that we had essentially bullied her even though all we were saying food was sub standard and we needed to speak to some one.

When we left one of the waitresses heckled us

And in end booked at the bell Inn kingsteignton and it was amazing food that was hot and we'll cooked and half the price for the same thing as well as excellent seevice.

Go to the bell in instead of the old rydon as Food is edible and delicious and mega...

The absolute worst food we have ever had ! Not only is this place ran by children (as young as 14 at a guess) who are trying their best with only one adult manager who May I add is ran off his feet but sorry to say the food is shockingly disgusting.

The moment we sat down and looked at the menu we should of left right away. Hardly anything on their for vegetarians either .

Anyhow, we stayed to give it try at least.

I choose the poke roast and my daughter choose the Mac cheese with salad … safe options we thought .

Nope , firstly, my veg was freezing on arrival, not only undercooked and smothered with some type of seasoning that over powered and spoilt the rest of the food once put on the main plate but I am also absolutely convinced the Yorkshire pudding was frozen and re heated, it was vile. The only thing that actually tasted nice on that plate was the poke and the apple sauce. So I barley ate it any of it. The most laughable thing is they pile so much on a wooden serving dish (think food Jenga) that food almost falls off , in fact one couples Yorkshire pud actually flew across the table and on to the floor !

My Daughter didn’t even eat hers either , she tried it and found it horrible, she forced herself to eat as much as she could but basically skimmed the top off and could stomach any more , in stead she ate the one slice of garlic bread.

So basically we paid £30 for a bit of meat , a couple of roasted potatoes and one slice of garlic bread!

Eventually I asked for the bill. When the very young girl (waitress) asked if we would like a doggie bag to take home I didn’t know if I should laugh cry or get angry- instead I politely said no thank you , I am sorry to say but neither of us liked the meal. She politely relied “Ok, I will just get your bill”

Not one person asked why we were dissatisfied and no apology made either hence why I am here leaving the review .

It’s Not the kids or the mangers fault obviously. The owners and chef need to look at their menu, include more vegetarian options and use fresh food and NOT frozen or pre prepared and then simply just warmed up!

Also the online menu is vastly different to the menu given to you on your arrival - the online menu is the reason we actually went this evening but don’t be fooled as it’s nothing like.

I Can’t understand the high reviews on here and I am...

WOW! WOW! WOW!

I cannot believe in my 26 years of living in Devon and I've never been to this absolute gem of a pub/restaurant.

I type this message literally 20 minutes after leaving the place having had a superb meal.

I shared a starter with my wife, the Mezze Platter. Quality ham, squid, Chorizo, and homemade dips with warm crusty bread and Gluten Free crackers for the wife, it was tasty and a great opener.

For mains I had the Pork Belly, with a superb mash potato and to die for cider gravy with a side helping of veg. My wife had the Panang Thai Chicken curry. I've been to Thailand and had a number of quality Thai meals here in the UK and I can honestly say the curry was easily on par. The flavours were bang on authentic!

I managed to squeeze a Sticky, Toffee pudding with vanilla ice cream in. Light, fluffy sponge, lots of butterscotch sauce and a quality ice cream.

The Rydon Ale was good. Proper ale head on it and decent fruit notes to it.

I did have a nosey at other meals coming out and they all looked good. The presentation of the food was brilliant, the plates and bowls used to put food on were really tasteful. The whole feel to the restaurant area is really chilled, lots of plants, great lighting and plenty of room.

I cannot find fault with the Rydon. 5 out of 5 for food, drinks, ambience and staff. A great young team with great manners, always smiling and very welcoming.

We will definitely be returning. We will be recommending to friends & family, oh and my customers who come to my coffee van.

Please, do not pay attention to the small number of low star ratings. There are always a few folk out there who look to moan and are...
