British India Restaurant — Restaurant in Tendring

We decided to order a takeaway to help celebrate a couple of things that had happened recently. Booked the delivery for the early evening, and had no difficulty placing the order. However, the delivery time came and went, with no delivery. British India had my phone number so could have contacted to say it was running late (but didn't). I gave them a quarter of an hour and rang to check on how it was doing. The lady I spoke to was quite brusque and offered no apology for it being late-just that it was "leaving now". To be fair, it was with us within a few minutes (we're about 5 minutes drive away). Unfortunately, the "award winning bhajis" (of which were only 3 and really quite small) were cold and hanging in grease. Practically inedible, tbh. The meat in one of the curries was tough, and the naan bread was also barely warm when I took it out of the bag. Visited last night with my partner. We were both really impressed with the experience from start to finish. We were welcomed by a friendly faced gentleman who took us to our table, which was lovely and clean with some well presented origami napkins. We ordered drinks, starters, mains, sides, and dessert. Everything was cooked perfectly, meats were tender and of good quality. The taste and aroma of the foods were beautiful. The dessert was coconut ice cream topped with a cherry in half of a coconut shell, which was a nice touch. On our visit, the establishment was clean and tidy with friendly and welcoming staff who had great knowledge and recommended some wonderful dishes. All in all 5 star experience. We will be back soon for sure. As always food good. Drinks menu lacking. Poor stock of wines. Appalling service this evening. Really disappointed, waiter extremely inexperienced, unconcerned with good customer service & very little knowledge of English. We are fairly regular customers but have never had to complain before. We had to wait nearly 2 hrs to eat & consequentially had no time for dessert or coffee. We were given a percentage off our bill & apology for the service. Hopefully this will be sorted out very quickly. ??? Also when we booked we requested a high chair for our 2 year old, we were told ‘fine’ only to find on arrival the restaurant doesn’t possess any high chairs...
