I was asked to look for another nearby chippy by my mother in law, as her local is being renovated, and I think she was getting a bit fed up of supermarket bought fish and fish fingers for her ‘Fish & Chips’ Friday. So I popped into Colin’s and was warmly greeted and within 5 mins I was walking out with my telephone order; it was ready spot on time that I asked it to be ready. My mother in law was nicely impressed with her cod and chips, and there was ample cod bites to share with my wife, and the large chips went around all three of us. The fish was moist and succulent, the batter was golden and crisp. The chips were just right, soft on the inside and a crunch on the outside. Thank you for a great ‘Fish & Chip’ Friday!

Whilst visiting family down at the Parkdean we decided to go out for some chips (with the onsite chip shop closed!) Colin's was only a short walk away. Service was very good. Unfortunately, when we got to eating the food it wasn't quite as good. My wife's cod bites were full of bones, the batter on my fish had sort of 'fell off' by the time I unwrapped it (tasted OK though!) My son reported that his pie was good but the chips were just 'average' (he loves chips, so always has an opinion on them...!) Hopefully we just caught it on an 'off' day, not bad, but could have been better!

Modern English fish and chip shop. Food as expected, not fine dining but good quality and service. Usual fresh battered fish and the chicken chunks are a firm favourite being genuine chuncks of battered chicken breast. I would recommend phoning order ahead especially at busy times. There is small space to eat in and plenty of beach tables outside.

Pulling up to Colin’s Fish and Chip Shop it looks pretty ordinary. The parking isn’t great the decor isn’t prestige but looking beyond the exterior is a happy and well run classic British Chippy!!

The potatoes are great, cooked to perfection along side fresh fish with a crispy batter. There is no sign of grease to coat your mouth but enough of everything good to make you salivate, just from the smell alone.

The chips, fish and friendly service were perfect and at the end of the day, that’s what we want right?! Hot fish and chips maybe with loads of sea salt and vinegar too?! Or preferably a dash of ketchup or tartar sauce?

Well trust me when I say eating at Colin’s is an experience that will be VERY hard to trump. The meal we shared was delicious.... in case your wondering my picture is the fish and chips with my two kids eating with me. They ate every morsel! Thoroughly enjoyed eating with their Dad in a classic chippy and I’m sure we all built a great memory that day, I know I did!!

Oh and check the drink cabinet he even stocks classics like Cream Soda and Shandy!!

Top notch and my no.1 chippy I’ve ever had! Will of course be visiting again as my Dad lives in Clacton now and this is his favourite Chippy too!!! So if your in town and want to try some authentic “by the sea British cuisine” then you’ll need to hit “directions” and find Colin’s. You won’t regret it I guarantee it!!!!!

Gorgeous food, keep up the great work guys!! ...

Visited this place on a Tuesday evening about 7:15 pm. I ordered medium cod, a portion of scampi and 1 portion of chips. Waited for almost 20 mins thinking they were cooking fish fresh. When I got home I discovered 2 small skinny pieces of reheated fish. when I phoned to complain I was told that they were budget pieces of fish but weighed the same as a medium cod! When I told the lady on the phone that after paying over £16 for this horrible meal i expected a decent piece of fresh fish. She changed her tune and then said they had run out of cod! I don't know which version is the truth but why didn't she explain there was a problem when I ordered the meal? Feel I was cheated. UPDATE. To their credit Hertford and Essex addressed my complaint professionally, apologised for their staff failing to tell me at the point of order that they had run out of cod and offered free cod and chips next time I...
