Different Restaurant — Restaurant in Tendring

We decided to give Different a try, having noticed it for the first time on our last visit to Frinton. We went for a selection of tapas, to cater for a party of two (one vegetarian and one vegan). The dishes we chose were patatas bravas, cauliflower and chickpea stew (vegan), halloumi fries, asparagus in chilli and garlic oil and beetroot and orange salad. The restaurant offers seating indoors and out and we chose to sit outside, as it was a nice evening. It took a while to place our order, as there only seemed to be one member of staff serving, but she was very friendly and helpful. Update: again today they fitted us in. Nothing too much for this team. The beetroot salad was a pleasure to gobble up. Pork roast this time and as wonderful as usual. Thank goodness I left two roast potatoes to make space for the orange polenta cake, only to change my mind and have the crumble instead. Chef, you did well on that crumble! Last review: The tapas was wonderful. Tried them after two Sundays of best roast beef dinners. Beetroot and orange salad blew my tastebuds away. Sardines on toast still has a Sicilian husband swooning. Love love the deep fried pasta bakes with chorizo. Oh and the chicken in lettuce cups was delicious. And the chicken and noodle salad. We were told by everyone—our Airbnb host, shop owners, even dog walkers—to visit Different, and it absolutely lived up to the hype. It was hands down the best meal of our holiday. We shared a charcuterie board, vegetable gyozas, meatballs, and truffle & Parmesan chips. The gyozas were the standout—honestly the best we’ve ever had!

We called ahead to ask for an outdoor table as we had our dog with us. Even though it was raining, they had a gazebo set up and made us so comfortable—our waitress even brought out a throw when my seat was a little wet. For dessert, we had the churros and cherry Bakewell cake, both absolutely delicious. If we ever come back to Frinton, we’ll be booking a table here again...
