Whilst the venue is very cozy and the staff are friendly, it appeared to be that we were purposely swindled. We came in for dinner with two children and we werenât presented with childrenâs menus. Our kids ate adult portions of bangers and mash and a basic pasta that was also quite the sized large bowl.
Unbeknownst to us both plates were listed on the childrenâs menus for ÂŁ6.50 per serving but again we werenât made aware of the childrenâs menu.
My wife had the buffalo chicken sandwich and there was nothing buffalo 𦬠about it. No dressing other than ketchup on the side. I went for the steak and ale pie with horseradish?? There wasnât a trace of đ radish.
And (get this) my meal was a kids size portion and it tasted like it just came out of the freezer; it reminded me of a Ramsey Gordonâs kitchen nightmares episode.
Being that it was Valentineâs Day I refrained from making a comment about menu mistakes and the bland food. I was close to expressing my dissatisfaction because the bill was just over ÂŁ80.00 without the surcharge.
Itâs also worth mentioning, I enjoyed a single pint of beer, and just tap water for the table. So we didnât go crazy with drinks or juices.
Soup was very tasty! The wings smelled amazing and they happened to come with blue cheese dressing which would have made sense to include on the buffalo sandwich. I didnât order them because we were told that the serving size is ~ 4 wings. When they were served to the table next to us, there would atleast 6 maybe 8.
It broke our bank but we didnât want the black horse to be the dark knight and break the hearts đ of their other hopeful cupids.
Sorry guys, Iâm in the hospitality industry and I know how much work it takes to run a restaurant from kitchen to the front of the house, so usually Iâm easier on the reviews when it comes to my dining...
Read moreWent there for lunch today, only the second time out since pubs and restaurants reopened. Like most I am aware of the virus, and venturing inside any public places with people you don't know who may or may not be carrying the virus is a little daunting. The place was booked by friends we were meeting there, therefore I had no idea what to expect. If the place could be judged by the number of visitors, then the Black Horse is popular, the car park was full, but no restrictions on parking on the road. Booking for inside tables was necessary to avoid a crowd. There are some tables in the front of the pub for a quick bite and a garden at the back if you wanted to eat al fresco. Inside serving staff wore masks, but some behind the bar didn't. Customers had to as well, but could remove them when sat at their table. There are glass screens separating tables within the required distance, but with people in full flow of conversations next to you, I couldn't help feeling a little uneasy, as well as each time someone passed me and a gush of air rushed my way. However, the food was wholesome, I had the roasted chicken, and it was enough to fill the tummy to satisfaction. But can't say much about the roasted potatoes, par cooked from frozen and hard. Otherwise, bravo to all the staff for risking their health so we could have respite from the dreaded virus, however brief - we were there for about an hour and a half. Enjoy...
Read moreIâve been going to this pub on & off for 30 plus years. However I rarely go these days due to the very low quality of food & service. I heard the chef has changed so decided to try lunch & I was so disappointed. I had a simple burger which apparently is angus beef, perhaps it was but it was cooked from frozen, the burger was so hard it was disgusting. It should have been soft & juicy. Yuck! I realise they have a small kitchen in which case create a menu that can be cooked fresh from that scenario. Stop trying to create fancy high end food when your not able to fulfill that idea. Pubs are going out of business because they donât get the market they are even in. Good wholesome rustic food is what people want. Also when I went to pay I then go charged a service fee really for what service. I got my own cutlery & when the food came it was slapped down in front of me & then being asked âyou want ketchupâ Like I was at McDonaldâs. Service charge should be optional & for good service. Moreover they keep staff who have absolutely no idea what service is, some people have it & you notice it when they have the ability. These guys donât. Not a clue & the service I got was from a seasoned employee which goes to show that itâs not always experience that shines. I just paid my money & left but wonât eat...
