The food was good and the atmosphere was excellent! My view of the service though (although decent enough) was tarnished by a few, slightly more-than-niggly, negatives. These were: 10 minutes late being seated (quite probably not so much the restaurants doing), correct information was not given to myself about the wine (one of the white's does not come by glass - fair enough - but tell me upon ordering please and offer me an alternative...do not just ignore the request and leave me bereft of one of my party's drinks...drinks I'm only at the bar ordering because your table is still not ready), confusion with what was ordered on a set menu, one part of guest's order being forgotten (fortunately, I had ordered 2 mains for mysel), another part of another guest's order being forgotten (fortunately, it was only one part of a large set meal). And there seemed to be young blond waitress, incongruous to the other affable ones, who at least lacked social skills (I'm being generous). The food was very good on the whole, although, i have always considered special fried rice more of a main dish over being a rice dish, but not here. Here, there was hardly any chicken or prawns at all in it. The best mark given to this place for its food goes for its serving of crispy noodles and as this is usually a stalwart of Chinatown (not provincial eateries like this) I cannot doubt its legitimacy. I highly recommend this restaurant, if only for the fact it clearly prioritises service: there was a plethora of staff serving here...and young too (I think it's great that the young are given a chance for experience and to...
Read moreMy girlfriend and myslef both left I.D extremly disapointed and hungry after 5 pretentiontsly small dishes. The stylish decor was in stark contrst to the poor service and overpriced, terrible, microwaved food which came out 5 minutes after ordering. After asking the waiter for a couple extra minutes to decide our order, we then had to wait 25min before he returned to take it. The dishes all came out seperatly, 5 min after each other, the stir fry mixed veg which was initally sent out wrong as a sweet an sour vegetables, came out 2 minutes later, bland and tastless. The kung po chicken tasted old and microwaved and we had to send it back. The braised duck was slightly better but still clearly just reheated. The Cantonese sweet and sour pork was the only dish which actually tasted great, so it was a shame that it only had 6 small peices of pork. We had great expectations for this place but was left completly disapointed and quite frankly fuming. When we voiced our disapointment to our waiter and asked for our bill his only response was “ooooo oooo i tell em”. A different waiter then brought the bill and left it on the table without saying a word. Avoid...
Read moreFood was good, but very disappointed to see no change in table layout to accommodate social distancing, with the chairs of some tables back-to-back with the next. This place has always been tight and busy, but I would have thought removing a couple of tables would have been sensible to space guests out better.
Also surprised to see that the vast majority of customers were entering and leaving without masks on and allowed to do so by the staff. Not the odd one or two, whole tables of 6, so I find it hard to believe they're all mask-exempt and asking customers to put masks on before seating them is reasonable, i would say. Even saw one woman holding her mask up in her hand as she left, as if that was ok to do. The complacency of some people never ceases to amaze me.
The smokers were constantly in and out also without masks, squeezing and bumping between the chairs that are so tightly packed together.
Sadly the good food has been let down by the priority being profit over safety in the current covid climate. I'll not be going back until things are properly...
