Good check-in experience, comfortable room…|But the room was on the ground floor opening outwards directly onto the beer garden with direct access to the High Street and the public car park, and with a keypad door entry with no internal second lock. As a woman travelling on my own, I was apprehensive, and rightly so as at 11.45pm I woke to hear someone using the keypad. They got it wrong the first time, which gave me time to leap out of the bed and get to the door to hold it shut, but they were successful the time after that…. and the three following attempts. They managed to get the door ajar on the fourth attempt, at which point I started shouting at them (not sure why I didn’t do that sooner); they went away and I heard them entering another door. Needless to say, I packed my things and left 5 minutes later. |Elite Pubs have acknowledged the incident but have denied that the door actually opened - believe me, it did. They claim it must have been guests who got confused, but why would guests would have had the code for my door and then managed to get through a different door? EP have “on this occasion” offered to refund the cost of the room, have advised the Farmhouse that a woman travelling alone should not have been put in that particular room on her own (thereby acknowledging risk), and have said that they have requested that second locks are added to the doors - I won’t know whether that is done or not, as I won’t be staying there again. |I really regret having to write this review, I have enjoyed a number of good meals at the Farmhouse over the years and would definitely recommend the restaurant. My room was nice and several of my colleagues have previously stayed at the Farmhouse and been happy with it, plus it provides much needed accommodation so close to Kings Hill. That said, I wouldn’t want another woman (or even need anyone) to find themselves in a similar situation with potentially a different outcome, and I am very disappointed with the way that the Elite Pubs have tried to brush the incident under the carpet as a confused guest when that was clearly...

Read moreWe, a couple in our 60s, recently spent two nights in one of the boutique rooms at the rear of the pub. Boutique hotels are all about providing a unique experience that you won't easily forget and the Farmhouse certainly ticked those boxes. The rooms are themed and ours was "the sty" and certainly lived up to its name. At first the room looked promising and had everything you would need however once we had settled in we realised that the sty had a film of dust on all surfaces, the stains from the previous occupant was on the bathroom shelf, the dead insect on the bathroom floor hadn't managed to escape and the glass bathroom door hadn't seen and cleaning cloth for quite a while. We informed the bar staff, who were very friendly and promised to sort out the problem. I then watched as one of the bar staff then went to the room with a cloth and spray. Sadly she only managed to quickly wipe the bathroom shelf and the bedside tables. Dust was still on the radiator and, worst of all, the tea/coffee making facilities (they also still had water in from the previous occupancy(s). Still it didn't bother us too much and we settled down in our sty. Later on we realised that the remaining toilet paper may not last during our stay and informed the staff. We then reminded them again and at the third reminder we were promised that new toilet rolls would be provided. Sadly on returning to our room just before midnight on the 2nd evening there still wasn't any new toilet paper. We rationed what was left and managed to get by with one sheet left on the roll. Further to the above the shower worked well but the water only drained very slowly this maybe due to a blocked drain or sieve. The room was certainly unique and the experience won't be easily forgotten. My tip would be to employ a cleaner for the rooms rather than...
