Gardeners Arms — Restaurant in Trafford

Went for a belated Mother's Day meal. Booked online which was easy to do. Was able to amend time as had to go later. Table was reserved when we arrived. Limited choices as it was 3.30pm but we all found something we liked. Cocktails special price 2 for £12 i/o £7/8 each. Beautiful glasses for the drinks - heavy and cut glass. Main meals were tasty, good portions and well cooked (fish&chips, steak pie, pork roast). I had a delicious orange & lemon sponge with custard. Dropped 1 star due to finding small amount of plastic film in pudding. Also the regulars sat at the bar were deafening, we couldn't hear each other speaking. Nearly deducted another star for this but that's unfair on the pub itself, sign of its success!. Staff were extremely busy as I think the pub was full with other diners, family groups and very loud drinkers. Dogs welcomed and water, bowls and a variety of treats on offer for them. I've been visiting this pub for years and always looked forward to a good meal here. On my recent visit (and probably my last) I ordered my usual steak and chips, I was very disappointed to see they'd replaced the chunky homemade chips with what tasted like standard oven chips, my medium-rare steak was overcooked and more like well-done. I had a couple of shriveled mushrooms and a small mushy tomato, presentation and quality had gone from 5 stars to 1 on this occasion. When the waitress came over to ask us how the food was, I told her it wasn't great, I had no response or apology, she simply walked away. I later spoke to the manager and asked if the food had changed, his response was that the whole menu had changed, despite offering the same meals on the menu. It appears that it's just the quality of food that has changed, but the price has not? There are many pubs in the local area that serve better quality food and at lower cost, very disappointing considering how good the food...

Nice environment Landlord friendly bar man clearly lacks experience very flustered. Poor Beer selection didnt have my first choice so chose another didnt have that so had to have another. Starters were great i had prawns wife had Houmas. Main meals i had a £10 Rump cooked to perfection sadly couldnt have chips they didnt have any,wife had Chicken and Leek overdone and lacked flavour she also couldnt have chips i had baked potatoe and wife had mash. Now my understanding is Chip mash and baked potatoe are made from potatoes. Now personally if that was my kitchen ide have made sure i had a bag of potatoes that you can pick up a for as little as £18 for a 55lb bag of Maris Piper a good all round potatoe. Why we accept what is mainly a frozen meal is beyond me. Sadly will not be going back i so wanted this to be a good experience and was ready to make it my local. Sorry i do wish you well and...
