Zan oriental Takeaway — Restaurant in Tunbridge Wells

As a family we have always used Zan as for us, the food itself is the best of the 3 in Hawkhurst.

Last time we ordered they made a mistake and sent 1 wrong item and missed the sweet and sour sauce from another. These things happen and I called straight away to raise the issue.

After being placed on hold to check options, the girls I spoke to offered a discount on the next order but this would not have amounted to enough to cover the incorrect dishes, based on our typical order value. After being placed on hold again, they agreed that they would provide the 2 items they had made an error with, free, on our next order. I asked how the would remember this was agreed and whether I needed anything to provide next time and she took my name, assuring me it was written down and would be fine.

I called this evening to place a new order, and the man I spoke to didn’t even take the time to check anything but simply stated that this wasn’t agreed as no one had told him. I confirmed the date I had previously ordered and he said nothing was written down. He didn’t at anytime sound like he was even checking. I explained that if what was advised wasn’t honoured, we wouldn’t be placing any future ordered with Zan and he didn’t care in the slightest.

Just had a fantastic meal from this Chinese takeaway – easily one of the best I’ve had in a long time. The food arrived hot, fresh, and full of flavour. Every dish was cooked perfectly, with generous portions and great attention to detail.

The sweet and sour chicken was crispy on the outside and tender inside, with just the right balance of tangy and sweet. The beef in black bean sauce was rich and packed with depth, and the egg fried rice was light and fluffy, not greasy at all. They even got all the extras spot on – crispy spring rolls, prawn crackers, and sauces were all top quality.

Service was quick and friendly, and the order was accurate with no missing items. You can tell they care about consistency and customer satisfaction.

Have been going to Zans for the last 10+ years without any issue. Over the last year or so the takeaway service has become a joke, ive had people swearing down the phone, the delivery price has now soared to £7.50 to be delivered to benenden, my last call the person taking it was un interested, couldnt give a toss, mumbled and had an aggressive and sarcastic tone, he hung up on me the first time and was rude when i called back.

Ive been refused service saying "we wont deliver that far" but delivers the next week. The staff are rude and disrespectful and im sad that this has happened as I have been a long time customer. Would not recommend until they change their attitude.
