Extremely disappointing visit to the Shepherd & Shepherdess today. I rang to make a reservation & was told that they don't take reservations for the number of our party. I explained that I was travelling here & would like to know if we could definitely eat here as it would be a waste of trip if not, the young gentleman on the phone told me that the restaurant wasn't busy at this time as their busy time had ended so it shouldn't be an issue getting a table.
We arrived at 14.45 & the pub was relatively quiet with lots of tables available. We ordered our food & were left waiting an hour before it was served. I questioned how long the food would be & wad told 10-15 minutes more, I explained that my 18 month old was becoming very restless after waiting an hour to be fed & that I felt ut was unreasonable to expect a young child to wait this long.
The young lady replied "There's nothing I can do?" And then walked away. Our food arrived about 2 minutes later which we were happy about.
Myself, my sister & my child got the Sunday roast, which was completely bland to the point it needed mint sauce to be able to taste anything on the plate. The mash potato tasted like had not seen butter before in it's life, the vegetables was on the boarder of being overcooked & mushy & the gravy was watery & tasteless. On the plus side my partner throughly enjoyed his mixed grill.
Whilst we were eating our food no one came to ask if the food was ok & there was a distinct feeling as though we were actively being avoided due to me querying how long our food would be as other customers were being asked if their food was ok. If a member of staff had came to ask us how the food was it would have avoided this review being made as I am a firl believing of raising concerns in person & not via reviews but this sadly was not the case.
I asked the young man who cleared our table where I could leave a review as the facebook page does not allow for this & after checking with another member of staff he told me on trip advisor. I asked why no one came to ask if our food was ok & his reply was "The person who served you should have came over." I feel as though i give members of staff every opportunity to...
Read moreAbsolutely stop what you’re doing right now and book this place for some dinner! Where do I even start? Firstly, all three of us who dined here said it was some of the best pub food we’ve ever had. I love when somewhere does a specials menu, so naturally my whole meal was from there lol.
THESE GARLIC MUSHROOMS! I have no words, the sauce, the garlic, the garlic BREAD dunked in oh my days, unbelievable. The Steak and ale pie with the puff pastry lid and the big chunks of steak? Unbelievable. Those chips dunked in a side of gravy!! Unbelievable. This is the best meal i’ve had this year so far.
We tried this place due to our friend’s grandfather recommending it so it’s a generational success and I can see why.
The service deserves praises of its own and the girls who worked there today were so lovely and you can tell wanted to give good service. I don’t know if the chefs woke up this Wednesday and thought i’m going to serve the meal of a lifetime but most likely, this is their everyday standards and they are high.
PRICE = A lot cheaper than you would expect for the quality of food they are serving. The place was pretty much fully reserved and I can see why.
If you’re reading this review thinking should I eat here? The only...
Read moreDisappointed, we ordered barnsley chop and the fish, chips & mushy peas, what arrived was lamb shank dinner, so said that's not what we ordered we we're told that is a barnsley chop, so thinking that maybe it is just we didn't realise that was just another name for lamb shank we were unfamiliar with we were just agreeable said OK fair enough and started eating, a couple of minutes later the waiter comes back to say that what we got was not the barnsley chop but a lamb dinner and would correct it, OK no big deal mistakes happen, we're all human, I got started eating the fish and chips, chips were both overcooked but not very warm, but I just thought nevermind still edible, but I noticed that I was missing my mushy peas, so I asked for them and was told it doesn't come with mushy peas but I could have either garden peas or mushy peas if I wanted, I said ill have the mushy peas, (not sure but I think I may have been charged for these as an extra side). Again not a big deal if they were forgotten but to tell me that the dish that is described as fish, chips and MUSHY PEAS on the menu doesn't come with the meal brings the gaslighting or lack of knowledge about their own menu count to 2...
