The Lupset — Restaurant in Wakefield

This place has a lot of potential, and after our usual quiz moved from its previous location to this new venue, I can already see how great it could be. The location is excellent (although a quick sweep of the glass in the car park would make it even better). I really want to love this pub, and while the food I had this evening wasn't quite what I was hoping for, the prices were very reasonable.

The staff were all friendly, and there were just a couple of moments where there seemed to be a bit of confusion. For instance, a bar tab was set up for us despite the fact that we'd already paid for our food, but my friend quickly sorted that out.

The wait for our pizza was a bit longer than expected – just over an hour. We were never informed about the wait time before placing our order, which would have been helpful to know upfront. When we checked in, we were told the wait was due to a backlog, which is completely understandable, though it would have been nice to have more communication about this from the start.

The kitchen had to stop taking orders for a short while due to the busyness, which was understandable, though my friend was a bit surprised when they weren’t able to order an extra bowl of chips. It’s possible it was just a busy night or a bit of understaffing, but we totally understand.

All in all, I’m sharing these thoughts with the hope that they help, as we’ll definitely be back and are excited to become regular Tuesday patrons. I’ll chalk this evening up to a few teething issues, especially considering it’s only the second week of the quiz. It’s fantastic to see the quiz bringing more people into this newly reopened pub, and I’m really looking forward to seeing it all develop! Wishing you all...

"Worst Meal Ever." I have been to many restaurants and have eaten so many steak meals, but never have I eaten the worst steak like the one I had in this restaurant.

Sometimes, steak can come back, not cooked as intended, but to have a steak with meat that is off, dry, and tasting like a meat that was out of date a week ago is completely outrageous. The steak didn't look like grilled but cooked. I didnt even see any grilled mark on it at all. The chips were black and soggy and couldn't be eaten. We also had soggy onion rings. I regret not taking pictures of the food because I have no words to describe those.

I told the manager who wasted about 20 minutes of our time before she could come to speak with us. She didn't even listen to hear what we had to say. The first thing she said was that the meat is fresh and came in that morning from the butchers. There was no apologies whatsoever.

I politely asked her to have a taste and tell me what she thinks. She didn't even look at the food but said we were lying and insisted that we pay full price for the food. I told her I am happy to pay for my food, but to be called a liar is not something I appreciate. I told her if she tasted the food and confirmed it is fresh, I would be happy to pay. She refused to still check the food out. I was charged for food I couldn't eat and no apologies for the out of date steak and appalling food.

What an absolute disgrace! We sat down and we ordered food with one meal coming out just after 15 minutes yet the other meals did not come out for another 45 minutes!

When they did eventually come out one of the meals was wrong! And the guy did admit that he did get it wrong which was fine as he admitted! However we had already been waiting a long time we had to so for cutlery they gave us the meals but no cutlery?? They then said that we would get the meal that was the right one for free but wasn’t really free when we had paid for something we didn’t even order! Refused to give us any sort of compensation the manager refused to come out and talk to us I asked to speak with them and got told no? They had a bunch of rowdy rugby players in which was way over the top with the noise level! Baring in mind they all had seen we had a 4 month old baby with us! This was supposed to be a nice meal out for my birthday which has now been ruined!! The replacement meal was cold and has since made me feel sick… absolutely diabolical if they know it was going to be busy more chefs and more staff should have been brought in to be able to cope with all the extra orders! And you shouldn’t have to book to get priority it should be as the orders come in absolute joke!
