It’s been a while since I last visited Valentino's so thought I’d give the recently introduced breakfast menu a try.
If I wanted nostalgia I definitely got it, the place has not seen a decorative overhaul in over 20 years and looks dated and somewhat tatty; although that said it is spotlessly clean & tidy.
Previous visits have always provided warm and friendly hospitality with exceptional food. Front of house saw 2 very polite, smartly dressed, welcoming young men who couldn't do enough to try and make our experience a positive one.
2 coffees ordered…. 1 and a half coffees (see images) came 20 minutes later…. unsure of why there was such a delay as there were only five people in the restaurant and that included myself and my wife.
Not the biggest issue in the world to wait for coffee so remained optimistic and ordered 2 ‘hash eggs benedict’.
First of our two hash benedict arrived 40 minutes later and was over cooked / hard yolks…. this one had to go back! 5 minutes later the second hash benedict arrived…. I still cannot figure out why both dishes did not arrive together. 15 minutes later replacement for the first hash benedict arrived.
The place was exceptionally quiet with only myself, my wife plus 3 other members of the public which unfortunately led to a very cold atmosphere (not sure how this can be improved…maybe some more upbeat music or even a music channel or the news on a large screen, as it is morning)
Given the restaurant was so quiet I cannot for the life of me figure out why the total wait time for 2 coffees and 2 hash benedict was 1 hour 15 minutes.
With a stiff competition of Italian restaurants within the area I am unsure how Valentinos can be sustainable as a business if this usual practice. Front of house excellent….. management and kitchen staff disappointing. The the elusive management is definitely failing...
Read moreOn behalf of a friend.... put the below review on Valentino’s Facebook page regarding our, terrible, Christmas dinner.....it’s been deleted and I’ve been blocked so can’t repost it. I would not recommend for anyone thinking of booking for Christmas in the future!
Came for Christmas dinner with the family (9 in total). Table at 1.30 waited what felt like a lifetime (with a very hungry 1 year old) for our starters, followed by another lifetime for our main course. We had 1 small bowl of veg between us and no potatoes were brought with the veg. When we asked for some more veg and some potatoes we were asked if chips were ok....CHIPS with Christmas dinner, no thank you (we did get another small bowl of veg). ‘Potatoes’ were finally brought to the table (when we had almost finished eating) and I can only describe them as chunky fried chips in a bowl on a piece of kitchen roll! Bar service wasn’t the best but soon became terrible when the bartender took away a bottle of champagne, which still had some in, and when questioned about lied saying he had a photograph of the bottle upside down in the ice bucket but then soon backtracked saying he hadn’t said that. Unfortunately for him this had been heard by one of the waitresses who kindly spoke up saying he had said it! And finally I’m glad I didn’t fancy a coffee after my food as we were never offered one never mind brought one. All in all our Christmas dinner wasn’t very good, at all, and needless to say we won’t be...
Read more0 STARS !!!!!!!!!!!!!! VERY DISAPPOINTING !!!!!! From arrival to leaving the service was extremely poor! It was almost half an hour before our order was taken by a pushy gentleman whom insisted on taking the whole order (3 courses). When the starter finally arrived the pate I had ordered was not pate it was more like potted beef but with a sloppy, strange consistency! It took a further 45 minutes for the main to come out which was a pizza and a piece of chicken and 4 small vegetables! Then we had to pester for desert having made the selection almost 2 hours prior!! The staff seemed more concerned with chatting amongst themselves or patrolling the tables in 4s. At no point did one person ask if everything was ok with our meals, which is basic procedure in any restaurant. The deserts were a complete let down. Having been to Valentino’s before being restricted to the set Valentines Day menu seemed disappointing however with the promise of a Valentino’s dessert it would have been worth it, however the plates were dirty and the desserts were nothing I couldn’t go to our local ASDA and pick up!! Would NOT recommend and will not return. There are so many better places around the local area now, McDonald’s included! DON’T waste your...
