Went to the Merthyr restaurant today with my partner for a little meal for Valentine’s Day as we were in the area after having attended GlowBambino beforehand.
While the restaurant has lots of seating (maybe a little too much), we arrived with a pram for our little 3 month old baby and although it meant waiting a few extra minutes, the staff hurried around to ensure we had the best seat possible for a couple with a bulky pram to accommodate. However, this want any issue for them and they did their very best despite it being a packed afternoon for them.
While that was pleasing enough, we were greeted to the most friendly staff that we’ve been served by in a restaurant for a long time. Such friendly people who couldn’t do enough for you!
Having the baby with us can sometimes feel like we’re a burden since she’s so young, not eating yet and can sometimes cry when tired and require breast feeding at points, none of this mattered to the team and whereas we’ve been treated differently (less accommodating or less friendly and making less of a fuss to us than other customers) in other restaurants, we were treated like celebrities, the girls would come to see if everything was fine countless times, even popping over just to check that baby was fine and didn’t need them to help in any way.
Daniella served us for most of our meal and was absolutely amazing with us and the baby, was extremely kind and couldn’t do enough for us. Even to the point that when it had quietened Down a little, Daniella came and spent time talking to the baby and made her giggle (This was only the baby’s 4th giggle, and she hasn’t even giggled for me yet). But Daniella was all round amazing.
The manager (possibly even the boss) had come to see us and the baby while we waited for our desert, took the time to get to know us and our little one, even relating to us how he also had his first little girl on the way! So, while wE didn’t catch your name - Congratulations and good luck to you and your wife, you’ll make a brilliant Dad!
And to top it all off, the food was absolutely stunning, not one bit waste and not one of the aspects of our meal were under parr or a little off. As a rarity, we enjoyed every single part of our plates at a restaurant ( Not something you find often at a restaurant)
Top quality food and amazing staff! Would highly recommend and will definitely be coming again, plenty of times!
Food is an extremely awesome price too!
Having had 2 drinks for my partner, and three for myself (2 cokes and 1 pineapple juice), starters, main courses, sides and desert for us both, we spent just £63!!! What a bargain!!!
Thank you all for an absolutely lovely time! We will be sure to bring Olivia to see you guys again when she’s a little bigger!
What an amazing experience at an amazing place!
The only let down is that there’s no parking there for customers specifically. But local car park is a fair enough distance to not be too...
Read moreIf you had any reservations about trying an Italian restaurant owned by a Greek chef in Merthyr, then take it from the sister of an English chef who owns an Italian restaurant in France! This restaurant is an absolute diamond in the crown that is Merthyr! Seated quickly by an all Italian front of house staff, who are calm, efficient, and friendly. Our drinks order was taken and we were soon sipping drinks perusing the menu. Not sure who we were trying to kid we already knew exactly what we wanted! The menu has all the dishes that you'd expect from an Italian restaurant in the heart of a Welsh town. But don't be fooled! There are more than a couple of real, authentic Italian gems hidden amongst the spaghetti bolognese and lasagne! We chose the Antipasti di Carne to start. A good test of things to come. We weren't disappointed. Good meat, cheese, olives, salad and some truly delicious homemade bread and piquant pickle. Already impressed, we followed with linguine al nero and cotoette di manzo... well, I needed a moment, what can I say that isn't expletive laden?? Outstanding. The cooking of the beef showed a good understanding of techniques. The flavours balanced perfectly, sweet, savoury, and each element of the dish complementary. The squid ink linguine, maybe slightly over if I'm picky, but probably in line with the tastes of the clientele on the whole. The flavour, took me straight back to the little costal restaurant in Italy where I had my first squid ink pasta! Generous with the shellfish and a fairly light fresh tomato sauce, that enhanced rather than overpowered the more subtle flavours of the sea. Neither dish required any extra seasoning, a chef who knows his flavours! Truly delightful. Keen to linger, we ordered their chocolate orange pot and tirimisu. Both deserts were exactly what was required to finish such a great dining experience! The chocolate pot, rich and thick. The taste of real orange, winding its way through each spoonful. The perfect serving. Not too much, leaving you satisfied, but looking forward to having again. The tirimisu was light, the perfect balance of coffee and liqueur, not overly boozy, which is often the refuge of a chef who doesn't know what good tirimisu should taste like! Firm, the layers distinct, like eating a delicious coffee chocolate cloud! Coffee to finish while we convinced ourselves that eating the whole meal again would be downright greedy! We settled for coming back for lunch the following day! Thank you for coming to Merthyr, I for one will be dining here regularly from this...
Read moreFood was amazing, let down quite spectacularly unfortunately by really quite poor service, which is a shame as the food was so good. The manager was literally sprinting around the restaurant throughout the evening which made for quite an odd atmosphere where I darent get up on my feet for fear of being knocked over or having some food spilt on me. It took over an hour to have our mains delivered to the table (although in fairness there was an apology and explanation that it was due to a large group being in the restaurant). Wrong starters were brought out (despite a long wait for those too). I personally have a bias that I dislike having a drink presented to me by a server holding the rim of the glass, the bottom half of the glass is the staff’s, top half is the guests, and so when a server literally ‘plonked’ a glass of coke on my table with her hand over the top of the glass I think I possibly gasped out loud. Table water wasn’t brought with the drinks (even though we asked for it), it wasn’t brought until we prompted the server when she apologised about the long wait for food. Christmas decoration remnants still up even though it was April. Servers stood around not doing anything, even though people clearly waiting to have their order taken. One server was scuffing her shoes on the floor as she walked, and although that may be her natural gait, again it’s quite off putting! And lastly, this may seem petty, but on both occasions that we have been to this restaurant we have had reservations, but on neither occasion did anyone ask our name, but instead we were just shown to a table. There were multiple reservations at the same time as ours, so clearly they actually didn’t know who we were. Now I’ve reflected on this as to whether that’s bad service or not, and concluded that it is… if I’ve gone to the bother of booking a table, I think the staff should at least acknowledge me and make us feel that we were expected/wanted etc. So overall, quite shoddy service unfortunately, despite really...
