Costa Coffee — Restaurant in Wales

Unfortunately I have to give a star but honestly it wouldn’t be the case! Having had to wait for a doctor we decided to sit & have a coffee & a bite to eat. Unfortunately myself & my mum had a coffee & a muffin each. My son then decided to have a cake, once queuing we noticed 2 flies floating about the cake counter then one in particular settling on a couple of the cakes, obviously we were put off but continued in the queue as he had a drink to pay for, he was hungry & I said to have a cake from the other counter which he did, when served I asked for a cake from underneath. This was got & we paid. I DID say to the lady that there were flies in the other cake counter & did they not have a way to cover things over. She replied unfortunately there’s nothing we can do & we don’t do that & shrugged her shoulders, this was while a few of her colleagues were staring at me & my son. I wasn’t rude about it just letting them know. Meanwhile I hasten to add there was some kind of work going on by the first cake stand & it didn’t look very hygienic. I know we expect in the heat, flies get anywhere but it’s unhygienic & in a hospital too. I’ve been to other coffee shops & most are covered with see through plastic in the cake counters so WHY CANT A BIG COMPANY LIKE COSTA DO THIS?! Well I'm here having a costa and managed to get a table, while I was waiting for my Latte to be made, it's to small to have loads of people waiting, so I got my food and Latte and sat down, with my horror and how disgusting it was to discover the condition of the floor around the tables. Now the cafe was only open about 2hrs before I got there and this around the table is days old, clearly showing they DO NOT pull the tables out and mop the floor after closing time. This is a hospitality place and hygiene is paramount, especially in a hospital. Do your job abd clean the floors. Food great...

I love a bit of cake with my coffee and would normally have americano with raspberry & almond slice. I was on a short break so that’s what I was going to order and collect. Am I glad I didn’t. The flies around the cakes not refrigerated no doors to protect them. The mess on all the surfaces they lucky I purchased coffee. Not good, they are stressed and I get it but two staff both look like they were done. I’ll get my cake from town and bring it to work with me rather than be subjected to that.
