A group of 7 ladies we went to celebrate our friends birthday. It took 45 minutes to get our order in. Some had starters which to be fair were lovely although our birthday lady's order was completely forgotten. We asked for our mains to be brought when they finally brought the forgotten starter. We had a mixture of Sunday lunches and food from the menu. It took ages again to receive our mains. The young man who took our order even wrote down all our peculiarities (and there was some). However, I have to say the mains was a let down, I order hunters chicken and sweet potato chips, my chips came out with fish bites. This was changed. I liked the peppercorns under the bacon but some people won't like this unexpected hit. One of our party ordered just chicken and the tureen vegetables but was given potatoes and Yorkshire pud which she specifically stated she didn't want. The meat was tough and the roast potatoes were not roasted or cooked in the middle. We asked for them to be changed which they were, with nicely brown cooked potatoes. Some of us had dessert and I have to say they were amazing and well presented. We noted that several diners had arrived after us and had been served and eaten well after us, one table even had two sets of diners eat and leave before we got our mains. Something clearly went in communication here as there was loads of staff and as I said the young man who took our order, eventually, wrote everything down to his credit. We are not as fussy as this seems, we like good wholesome cooked food. We noted the fresh new look of the place since being flooded. But hope the service,/main course issues can...
Read moreWe attended 15/09/2012 with a small party on a quiet Saturday afternoon. 55 Minutes later parts of our meal started to arrive together with a children's meal we hadn't ordered. We complained and were met with insult. We were told by the manager/cook that it wasn't a Charlie Chalk or Mcdonalds and everything is cooked 'from fresh' and she'd spoken to the waiter who took our order and we DID order the children's meal. Having worked in the service industry for many years I was staggered by the novel "customer is always wrong" attitude and requested a refund. The manager declared "there is nothing wrong with your food" and refused. At this point I will have to take her word for it as most of it wasn't actually on the table. As the manager stormed away from our table I asked "just give us a refund and we will never bother you again!" to which she again stated "no" and "there's nothing wrong with your meals!" We walked out. (1) lengthy delay/incorrect food orders (2) combative and insulting management (3) customer is wrong (4)No refunds. The experience was so bad it's funny once you get over the totally unexpected attitude. A lot of money for a funny...
Read moreI know this lovely pub well, and have never had issues before, during these worrying times, we were finally able to visit Wales and see family. We visited here, as it seemed to be the only place in the area currently open. Beer garden (and car park!!) only. Sadly chaos reigned. Yes, we didnt prebook, but were told to find a seat and someone will cone to us. We sat near a couple who had prebooked. 20 mins later, and two attempts by the couple plus one attempt by my partner to get any sort of service (we only wanted a drink) still no one appearing. The staff I could see seemed frantic and rushed off their feet. Yes it was busy but not that busy. We left, so did the couple who had prebooked. I know its so tentative opening pubs etc in Wales and I wholly support their concern and safety measures, compared to recent sights I've seen in English pubs, they take these times very seriously and I applaud them. But it wasnt an excuse for our experience. I do hope they go from strength to strength. Just make sure you prebook and sit near the path of...
