Fontygary Inn — Restaurant in Wales

Service great. Drinks lovely. Food was the issue. My wife thoroughly enjoyed her food. My daughters had pizza and chips and enjoyed although the pizza was one that would cost 50p in tescos but the kids meals were cheap so it wasn't a big issue.

I had the 8oz sirloin with blue cheese dressing. When it first came out, it was very overcooked. No pink at all when medium was asked for. So I spoke to a waitress who had no issues with replacing it. Had I known what was going to be coming back out, I would have opted for a different option.

The food came back out, the steak was cooked much better but diving in deeper revealed a fatty steak which hadn't seen a grain of salt or pepper to flavour the meat. The chips that come back out were undercooked and soggy. Because of this, they just soaked up the oil. They was So oily, I was able to squeeze the oil out of them dripping onto the plate. It was inedible. My wife tried my steak and my chips and agreed. Spat them both out. And no one ever complains twice. I left it there and went to get some food from the local tesco. No problems with the staff but the management needs to change. So rude and not abiding the social distance rules. I understand times are particularly hard these days and you try to please everybody as I worked in the same Industry and it's not a easy game especially in these times, however me and my family who are in a bubble booked a table for 5 which we were separated as expected but a group of locals of 5 all sat together. When asked by management we were very rudly spoken and told to be sat there and that is the way it is. Also I was told they were staff when I even known one of the 5 who I know FOR FACT they aren't staff. Being local to rhoose and do drink and eat from time to time this is completely unacceptable and have a good means to contact the authorities as the pub clearly indicates posters of social distancing but they are not following the guidelines themselves. I would leave 0 stars if possible. Me and my friends visited this “establishment” on the 15th of March 2025. We was having a few quiet drinks when one of my friends who suffer with MS took a fall, no fault of her own, she was far from intoxicated as we only had one or two drinks at this time. Unfortunately, we had the horrible experience of coming across the horrid owner. He refused to serve us after her fall. We explained that she suffered with MS but he did not care. It was visible our friend was suffering with her mobility, he questioned her illness and proceeded to speak to us in such a rude and vile manner saying “if she suffers with MS where is her crutch”. This is a clear example of discrimination against disability and disgusting customer service. We will never return to this “establishment” and that is a stretch calling it that.
