We eat out a fair bit and this place excited us because the concept is EXACTLY what we’ve always said suited us best. We went out of our way to fit this visit in on a tight traveling itinerary and overall it was worth it but we had a mixed experience. The building and interior are lovely and a perfect setting. Without a doubt, the concept and food was exceptional (apart from the petit four… that included a small grainy jelly, a small piece of crystallized fudge and then the single tasty item: a chocolate bonbon but once we received the order, we immediately regretted the choice and think the kitchen should eliminate it entirely or replace with something to match their other food) and absolutely delicious! The service was really what ruined our experience and made us anxious to leave as soon as we were able. They have their menu laid out in small plates, large plates and sides. The difference between them is just the price, not the size which is fine but it can few challenging to understand how much to order when they lay it out this way. Normally the server would help with this but ours only confused and frustrated the process for us. Our STRONG preference was to order 2-3 small plates to start and then order some large plates after that and to keep the food coming and hot etc. Our server more or less refused to let us do that. She didn’t seem interested in hearing us out on what we preferred and had her own VERY strong language about how things were done. So, she won. We just ended up placing an order for 7 dishes of mixed small, large and side plates. It took 45 mins for the food to arrive (and they only give you a 2hr window to eat so they more or less force you to scarf their food because we ordered our food very quickly after arriving (although not as quick if she had let us order according to our preference) and ate WAY too quickly and weren’t done until close to the end of our allotted time) and then we had 7 dishes all cooling off as we tried to eat them before they were cold. It was incredibly frustrating and made no sense to us but that’s what she insisted we do. Not sure if our experience would have been better with someone else that would have honored our preferences (which are NORMAL for eating our?!?) but we’ll never know.
In summary: building is awesome. Food (apart from very disappointing petite four dessert) is awesome! We didn’t appreciate the server we got at all and we strongly disliked having to order all dishes at once which all came at once and all cooled off before we could...
Read moreI've probably scored a little bit harsh, as I'd googled fine dining in Menai Bridge, and this didn't hit the mark.
The food was very nice (although the duck a little over cooked for my liking, no pinkness to it).
When we were shown to our table only one place was set. We had to ask staff for a second plate and cutlery. Then the second place was set with only a fork and no knife so we had to asked for knife.
We were not offered drinks while we read the menu, we had to ask. We ordered a wine and a beer, only the wine turned up, we had to remind them about the beer.
We ordered 3 small dishes, 2 large dishes and 2 sides. One of the sides arrived 18 minutes before the rest of the food. Maybe they assumed we wanted the sides as a starter? But then why only assume one was a starter and not both? (or just ask).
The rest of our food tuned up minus one dish. We reminded the staff of the missing dish and it arrived right away. There appeared to have been another mix up somewhere as the staff came back counting and double checking they had given us the correct dishes. Seems they thought they had given us a dish belonging to someone else.
We ordered the camembert, when it arrived it wasn't being carried quite flat, so was running out of its container, off the plate and onto the waitresses hand, the floor, the table and the chair. I mentioned this at the time, but we were left with the spilled one rather than it being replaced with a full one.
All in all, each individual thing was very minor and hardly worth mentioning, the food was lovely, the staff were lovely. But each of these little things added up making it more of an amature experience and not the 'fine dining' experience we...
Read moreDishes were ok. Service was very good. Prices were way too high. We as a local family to the area love to go to local restaurants to try them. We’d always seen the freckled angel in passing and said we must give it a try. We booked and we went to try it. We knew prior to booking that the concept was small tapas dishes. The dishes were I’d say ok I unfortunately can’t say they were more than that. The portions even by tapas standards were a bit on the small side. And the flavour profiles were only in the sauces not in the main pieces (which were we thought a bit bland) The bill was extremely high. We had the equivalent in any other restaurant of a main dish each we felt in terms of quantity of food. We got a bill for £96. Between 3 people that’s £32 a head for just the equivalent of a main dish (we didn’t have any drinks only tap water). We’d expect a lot more either in terms of taste or quantity for that price. from our experience as locals going to eat in the area in very nice restaurants we’d never payed more than 15-20 pound for a main meal each. We ended up going to Waitrose to get our dessert as we were left feeling quite upset and shocked at the bill for our food. It’s a shame as our experience was cut short by the price as we’d have loved to have had a more full meal (mains, side, desert) but the price put us off massively. However on a positive note the service was really good. The staffs service was a redeeming feature of...
