FOOD REVIEW ONLY. UPDATE: 14.02.24 Booked here for valentine's after a good Christmas meal with work and they did a brilliant job! Vegan option for all courses which is brilliant for me. Everything was lovely. I had a tofu starter which was brilliant, followed by the vegan pie - very yummy and then the vegan brownie and ice-cream to finish. My husband thoroughly enjoyed all his courses too. He had prawn starter, ribeye main and chocolate cake. Highly recommended, we'll be returning again. ---- I came here with my work for our works Christmas meal. Plenty of vegan options to choose from when speaking to the staff, who were friendly and helpful. I went with the soup for starter, which was nice. Then the pepper pot for my main, which came with the usually Christmas dinner veg. Large portion size and enjoyable. For dessert they had a vegan brownie and vegan ice cream which wasn't on the menu and it was delicious! Everyone enjoyed their meals and we all left stuffed. Lovely pub and great meal.

Absolutely awful service and food. The rooms are cheap and you definitely get what you pay for. We were in room one and this is above the kitchen so until the kitchen closes and stops serving you have a really loud sound of the kitchen extractor sounding like a helicopter is outside the window. In the restaurant the food is cheap produce. I shared the platter starter which is just a deep fried delight with little flavour and extremely basic. For a main I had the roast duck. This was awful and more like Chinese crispy duck. I brought this to the wait staff attention to be told that it says it is roasted on the menu so they can’t do anything. I explained duck should be served medium rare to have to speak to the manager (also chef) to eventually be taken off the menu accompanied by awful attitude. This is not a place that can handle criticism well and definitely is not worth the money charged.

Partway through my shift caring for our older people I just felt that I really fancied a roast beef dinner. My client mentioned The Little Crown. I rang to ask if they did takeaway Sunday dinners. The answer was yes, what would you like? And when do you want to collect? They made my day !!! And they made my day even more when I plated the most fabulous roast beef, roast potatoes and a lovely selection of vegetables. I'll be ordering again on a working Sunday when my girls are at their dad's. I also saw what a lovely place it looks to eat so will definitely treat us all to Sunday lunch together .

A little gem of a venue, hidden the heart of a Welsh valley, steeped in coal mining and victorian industrial history. Lots to see and do in the local area, fabulous walks on the doorstep too.

Staff are very friendly and helpful.

Also there is a children's playarea and this looks to be well maintained. There also appears to be seating outside, perfect for warmer sunnier days.

As you enter the restaurant, you can see it's meticulously clean and well kept. Decor is modern and comfortable in style.

The toilets are very clean and well presented with a unique design and a nod to the local coal mining history of where the restaurant is located.

The bar is well stocked, offering drinks for all kinds of palates and budgets, including tea and coffee.

The food is absolutely divine, and the chef is very knowledgeable of the dishes he has designed. I visited on Valentines Day, where there was a choice to order from their exclusive valentines menu and the regular day to day menu. There are a lot of different choices to suit everyone's tastes and budgets.

The food is well designed, prepared with care and love, and I'd say the gentleman who prepared it most definitely has a passion and flare for his craft. He was more than happy to come to the table and describe the different dishes on offer and chat re options available.

There was also a specials menu too.

Overall, I would highly recommend this venue.

Also to added I visited a second time with friends.

The venue was again clean and staff friendly.

We chose from the light bites menu. This was equally prepared with love and meticulous detail. I had the ham and handmade chips option with peas and was equally as good as the more intricate dishes sampled previously.

Thank you to the chef and the service team who made both visits immensely enjoyable and relaxed. We will...

Unfortunately our visit here for food wasn't good. We had reserved a table for two, was seated straight away & food order taken. The wait for starters was slow & we noted others who arrived after us was served before us, normally this wouldn't have been a problem if we hadn't been waiting almost an hour. The waitress apologised for the delay. When the starters arrived presentation was good & food hot & tasty, although there was no salad garnish as described on the menu. Another 45 minute wait & the main course was served. We both had different chicken dishes, again presentation was good. Sadly the food was awful. Both chicken breasts were overcooked, dry & rubbery. The dauphonoise potato was the worst I've had. NO sauce, & very dry. I couldn't eat it. We explained to the waitress, who took our concerns to the chef. She returned to say "He will take your points on board"! Whilst paying at the bar we also raised our concerns about the poor meals served to a different lady. Her reply "oh, £72 please" No offer of a discount, complimentary drink or apology. I understand a reasonable wait for food to be prepared & served, and that at busy times this may take longer, however, when we visited there were a number of empty tables and other guests had already been served their food. I don'tike to leave bad reviews, however I feel this is honest...

Went for Sunday lunch table was originally for 4 but they did fit in 6 people so that was good. It was not very busy at our 2.30 booking but still waited ages to be served. We finally got served then out starters came out before the drinks. We had to ask 3 times for our drinks! Finally drinks come out when we are nearly finishing our starters. Starters was nice. Then for long wait for our Sunday lunch. What can I say what a disappointment rock hard veg, cauliflower in particular couldn't even get a folk through! Packet mix Yorkshire by the taste and texture and one miserable seemed either re-warmed or very poorly made roast potato, with 2 thin slices of beef. Anyway as we must be gluttons for punishment we waited for desserts, and waited we did. Caramel crunch Ice cream with no crunch you get the gist. Miserable young staff seem more life in a wet wipe. Shame as it's been done up lovely but the food is just not it for me or those I was with. Also there was something like 12 pounds over charged on the bill when we worked it out later but in a rush to leave we didn't check if it was a service charge if so we would of asked for it to be removed because there was no service. I've had better Toby carvery and that's...
