Mackworth Arms — Restaurant in Wales

Only popped in for a quick drink before moving on to another venue for an evening meal, but we got chatting to the landlords who convinced us to stay for a meal. Both landlords had only recently taken over the license and the bar was very inviting. The meal itself was very well presented and very tasty, they even let us put a bottle of bubbly in their cellar to cool, we had just come from a wedding. Really wished I'd had the ribeye steak instead of the pork belly, nice to see a steak done so well, not that the pork belly wasn't delicious. The whole experiance, the bar the staff was brilliant. The resturant was well set out with good sized tables for families and intimate ones for those romantic moments. The menus was small but varied and they were all hand made, didn't try one but they hand made proper pies. Above all the feel of the place was just right, I would cheerfully go back but its a bit of a trip...

Most definitely the worst pub food we’ve ever had. I ordered the spaghetti carbonara and got a bowl full of watery tasteless slop which was frankly incredible! My husband didn’t fair much better with his lasagna either. His offerings consisted of leathery dry lump which looked and tasted like it had been hanging about at the back of the fridge for a good couple of weeks or so - disgusting! To add insult to injury, our usually lovely Doom Bar pints were sour and undrinkable. All respect to the staff, however, who were very friendly and polite, we did have the cost of our meals deducted from the final bill, but still ended up paying for the two hideous pints of beer unfortunately. Unless you are a local, my advice would be to avoid the Macworth completely - it’s really not...

We ordered food as a couple . When it arrived one was hard and burnt and inedible( this was the homemade lasagne ) I picked something else off the menu by the time this came my husband had finished his . There was a mix up with the bill, no apology for the disgusting food and customer service. We were made to wait while locals were served first ( with a smile ) bar maid was rude and arrogant. Definitely will not be going back . Avoid , definitely not worth it find...
