I usually visit the Castle Inn a few times every summer and always enjoy my visits. They’ve tidied up the beer garden in recent years and it’s always been a nice cosy little pub. Decent range of beers etc on tap. The food is generally very good. Particularly their flat breads which in my opinion are the best dish on the menu. Tasty and plenty of it so reasonable value. They have friendly young staff but service (for food at least) isn’t anything special. You sometimes don’t get a table visit from staff once your food has arrived to check it’s ok or if anything else is needed, and tables sometimes stay uncleared. However, it can be very busy and I’d recommend booking in advance. That said everyone there is pleasant enough. Two recent visits have disappointed a little in relation to value for money. We ordered a squid side dish which although tasty was Ā£9 for four modest squid rings. More disappointing was the vegetarian platter to share. It’s one of the most expensive things on the menu at Ā£30 and was incredibly poor value for money. Definitely not enough for two to share. It consisted of 6 small feta stuffed peppers and a similar number of small falafels and some halloumi cheese pieces. The remainder consisted of a small green salad some dips and a one small flat bread. No olives as stated on the menu. It all tasted fine in fairness but I felt robbed for the price. If it was priced the same as the flat bread dish (a little more than half the cost) and not listed as a ā€˜sharing platter’ it would have been fine. Some honest feedback from a regular visitor which I hope is taken on board. It’s a good little place and it would be a shame if customers started to leave there feeling a little disappointed (as we have recently).…

This is a lovely and quirky pub. The food whilst straightforward is excellent and well priced . The staff were helpful but really not terribly friendly. There’s also an issue with dogs. We fully understand that pubs need to have dog free areas. However there’s a sign saying no dogs on the door but when you go in and enquire dogs are welcome but only in the front two rooms which are small rooms with little atmosphere unless the pub is heaving which it was not. So on all three of our visits whilst staying nearby we sat on our own in the front whilst in the large main pub area there was lots of merriment and atmosphere. There is a whole area by the fireplace where no one is eating that was ā€˜out of bounds’ to us. It just felt a bit off and unnecessary. It’s a country pub in an area full of dog walkers. Sorry to leave a mixed review because you deserve to succeed as a pub but I think you need to get things a bit more sorted in winter months when you’re not so busy and the outside are is out of use.

So very very disappointed in our experience on our return to this pub after a few years away. 1: Dogs are no longer allowed in the bar. Owners and dogs are banished to one of two small rooms away from the bar. The excuse was that "they get in the way". I nearly fell over four children while trying to get to the bar. They were definitely in the way. 2. I don't think I had one drink in the correct glass. They were poured in any glass available without the customer being asked. Really bad practice. The attached photo is a Guinness!! 3. The barman couldn't even be bothered to slice a lemon for a gin and tonic. 4. Vaping allowed indoors. Not very nice. The pub itself is beautiful but has some very strange operating ways. Basically if you have a dog, or care about serving standards, stay away.

We were really looking forward to our meal at The Castle Inn for my husbands birthday but unfortunately were really disappointed!! We booked a table in advance as we were told they start serving food from 6pm and can get quite busy. On arrival the staff were abrupt, pointing us to the direction of our table in a back room, there were no numbers on the tables so we were not aware that we were sat on the incorrect table. We began eating our food when a very rude member of staff came over and told us we needed to move, a large family then proceeded to stand over us whilst we moved our food over to the table we were suppose to have been sitting on. The family we were next to were extremely loud and we were basically sat on top of them, personally I wouldn’t sit a couple next to a large party in a small back room that was barely sufficient for two tables let alone four!!! We just finished our food before having to leave, we left feeling really upset and disappointed by the service we had received. The staff definitely let this pub down, we will not be returning or recommending this to anyone else!! 0 stars...
