I had previously been at the Margam deer and really enjoyed but on this occasion it was terrible, I should have complained and asked for my money back but had just recovered from being poorly. Nobody greeted us at the door as we arrived it was a lady with a laptop behind the bar, and then we had to wait while she was dealing with a complaint but there was another of member of staff free to greet or serve us but chose not to. So after waiting we finally got to confirm our booking and where told o sit where we like, we found a quiet table in the corner sat down and went through the menu before ordering in the meantime found that the table we had was really sticky it felt disgusting and unclean, we bared with it and I went up to order having to wait again while both staff members whom one I believed o be the manager who had the laptop with her at all times, the reason I had to wait was due to them pouring to glasses of coke for themselves. I ordered a cavary for myself and a larger with a dash of lime and a coke for my partner as there wasn't Fanta available for her, sat down and my drink had far too much lime in it I found it hard to drink. I waited for my partners order to come out first as I could just walk up to the canary with my ticket, wish I hadn't waited as I went up to the empty canary with my ticket waiting to be served it took so much time that I had to wave the bar lady down and then called the meat server he seemed in a rush to serve me and go back through to the kitchen, the food looked as if it should be reviewed and renewed from the hot plate and was right I took my plate back to the table in which my partner had nearly finished her meal, started to tuck in but couldn't cut my Yorkshire pudding it was that hard; the vegetables were undercooked apart from the cauliflower cheese which has a long life due to its moist cheesy nature my plate wasn't pleasant to say the least it was shocking to be honest and before that I had to hunt for napkins and cutlery as there was one set at the sticky table but they had food ingrained on them. I tried to eat my food as I was starving but the whole experience and the food was as bad as it could have got to be honest, in fairness the fresh burger and haloumi fries my partner had was fine and she ate it but as soon as she finished I left my food and drink pretty full and was glad to leave but felt like such a waste of money and time. If I had the energy to complain the list would have been so long where would I start and just wanted to leave that sticky table terrible meal service and over limed drink right there and get something from the supermarket for myself when home. This was a huge difference to the experience I've had on a number of occasions prior albeit over a year ago, I couldn't understand how it had gone that bad in that time period and it was generally quiet especially for a Saturday afternoon and now have come to learn why. I apologise for the long reply, I don't usually complain but felt compelled to do so on this occasion as it was terrible from start to end we originally were looking forward and discussing which dessert to have but unfortunately didn't get that far into the meal for the reasons I've expressed in this reply. Worse £37 odd I have spent on a...
Read moreWe arrived in time, but we're all lost - your directions on the web link are incorrect, also the Google maps listing is incorrect and directed 3 different car fulls to different, incorrect places. The Google listing also has the wrong opening times apparently. We then sat down, were not told that there wasn't a table service, nor that there was any issue with food service stopping at a certain time. We, as a group of 7 people, paid over £100 for food. Most meals arrived in a timely fashion, but 3 of us were eating from the carvery, so we waited for the mains to arrive so we could eat together as there was no queue. We went up to get food and stood for about 10 minutes waiting for someone to come from the kitchen to serve us. The food wasn't great, but it was okay. The size of the portion of beef was very small, the stuffing was rock hard overcooked, but we weren't bothered, as there was a choice of veg. I was disappointed to see that the peas were about 3 different colours - I know this means they've been cooked at different times and all thrown in to top up, which isn't healthy, and the roost potatoes were freshly, albeit completely anemic and undercooked. Overall, the rest of the food was edible. There were no complaints about the other meals. Two of the carvery eaters wanted to go back up for more vegetables, but this was already cleared away. It seems fair to say that given the option of paying for a carvery that you can return to for extra vegetables as many times as you like being included in the price, that we didn't get value for money, having paid over £30 for the privilege and not being able to take advantage of it. It was a Thursday evening and not late - only halfway through our booking time. They didn't ask us if we were finished, they didn't check if the food was okay and they didn't clear our plates before we left. It was very disappointing and we won't be returning. It spoiled a celebratory evening of two families getting together for...
Read moreA group of 11 of us booked the Margam Deer for a 40th birthday celebration meal. 9 people from the group went to the bar to order, I ordered via the app for me and my partner. I ordered two curry’s when the waiter came over and said they had no korma curry, which wasn’t a problem and swapped it easily to tikka.
Our food was the first to come out and looked lovely, the chips were piping hot but dipped into my curry the sauce was lukewarm.. I contributed my meal and went on to eat some chicken from the curry which was cold, I didn’t want to complain so took another bite but again the chicken was freezing like barely defrosted so I spat out the bit I was chewing and called the waiter. My boyfriend didn’t even attempt to eat his chicken pieces as he was unhappy at the temperature of the curry alone. The waiter was called and said no worries and took both the curries back.
In the meantime everyone else’s food was being served, an extra gammon came out which no one had ordered, then a chicken burger when beef was ordered, steak cooked rare when asked for well done was brought out. My aunt couldn’t eat her steak just as the sight of the blood and called the waiter over to complain.
He then came over to explain that because half ordered on the app and half at the bar that it had confused the chef, although only two of us ordered on the app and everyone else went to the bar and table numbers were provided both at the bar and on the app. While waiting I then seen him take gammon and a chicken burger over to the table next to us, which I’m guessing they had confused.
My aunties steak came out well done but on the same plate where there was still blood so she didn’t eat any of her meal. My brothers main came out before his starter which then he didn’t eat his starter and was cold to touch.
It was a shambles and ruined my aunties 40th birthday meal. Would not return...
