I was very fortunate to have a lunch date at this wonderful restaurant on Sunday. From the moment you entered you felt a warm and friendly vibe. Staff greet you with a warm welcome. The setting is idyllic and the autumnal views into the garden are magical. Our server Kai G is a credit to the team. Whilst I waited for my partner I had a Guinness poured by a barman from Queensland. He was very jovial and informative of local dark ales that are served. A log fire created the perfect ambiance and we were seated by Kai G. The menu is extensive. We ordered the beef salad, calamari and lamb shoulder roast dinner. The food was delicious and all cooked to perfection. The gravy, roasties and seasonal vegetables were all a delight. The lamb was melt in your mouth perfection. The portions were hearty, wholesome and nothing was wasted. Kai G was attentive, charming and very professional. No service charge is included in the bill, however I tipped to show my gratitude. Highly recommended.

Delicious meal and wonderful service. Much nicer than usual pub grub. Points out of 5 - we had tasty starters including halloumi, chilli prawns and spicy squid. Mains were beef bourgenion with veg and scalloped potatoes ( 5 points), steak burger with chips and coleslaw (5 points), chilli beef salad (4 points) and the haddock and salmon fishcakes (5 points). The only negative was a bit too much sauce on the chilli beef salad. Garlic bread was also really nice bread (15 points for that, think its the best garlic bread we have ever had). Coffees and desserts were great - mini desserts were big enough but I was a piggy and had the bread and butter pudding! We also had the waffle amd the spple/blackcurrant sponge. All yummy and top points around. Am now rolling myself home as I'm so full. Also our server was amazing, lovely smiley dark haired girl I'm sorry didn't ask her name

We made reservations and so had no wait. Apparently when making a reservation, you have to know to ask for a table with a view. As we were being seated, I asked for the table next to the windows and was told it was reserved. Hostess was fairly abrupt with me. Since this was our first time, we couldn't have known. The crispy squid with sweet chili mango. Very tasty and nice balance between the sweet and spicy. I had the prosciutto wrapped halibut with muscles as my main. The halibut itself was perfectly cooked and the sauce was very tasty. I thought the dish was overwhelmed a bit by the amount of peas and potatoes. My glass of wine paired wonderfully with the fish. Though hostess was abrupt, my wait staff was fabulous. She was warm and kind. She helped make the evening better.

We've been here a few times, yet won't be going back. We had a less than brilliant Sunday lunch a few weeks ago, where the food was a bit dry and the service somewhat chaotic - after waiting at our table for 20 minutes to pay, we had to stand around and wave our credit card at the staff near the bar to be able to settle up. We thought we'd try again for a late lunch last week, and the service was rather disorganised. It felt like there was nobody in charge, with one particular waitress more interested in chatting with her friends (possibly co workers on their day off) than working. Quite a cold welcome from behind the bar when we arrived. When we had waited at the bar for a few minutes to be seated, and the lady behind the bar hadn't acknowledged us, we asked if we could just find a table - to be told very tersely that we had to wait. My starter was so-so, main nice, and pudding again a bit nondescript. Then when we wanted to pay - well, yet again we had to wait around. In the end we just went to the bar to get it done, and get out and go home. We felt like the staff had no proper management, it was quite strange and uncomfortable - like customers were a nuisance. I've never experienced it in any other Brunning and Price pub - and we go to a lot of them. Sadly we won't...

I'd seen this place recommend in a few blogs and rightly so, perfect Sunday lunch spot and best roast I've eaten out. Parking on site was a bonus. It was just me and my dog I'd tried to ring and book a table but I couldn't get through. On arrival they were extremely busy but the man who greeted me at the door was so welcoming and managed to fit us in, I was surprised and relieved after a long walk. Everything ran smoothly, watching the team do their jobs, they were busy but it looked effortless, everyone was focused, people were attended to swiftly, everything was cleared and cleaned promptly and properly, a very clean, comfy, well run restaurant. All the staff from the man who greeted me and took my order, to the runner, the man who brought my drink, the lady who checked on me a few times, were all so pleasant, friendly and efficient. As a single person I am often invisible in restaurants and that means I can wait for ages to get food and drink orders and I'm rarely checked on, but not here everyone sees you, makes time for you, and makes you feel welcome. The food was lovely, I had a great roast, nice portion size with everything you'd want for your Sunday roast, and I just had room for something...

Went with a group of friends for a birthday celebration. The service was excellent, very friendly and welcoming staff. My complaint was with my food. I paid nearly £18 for a burger and chips and at that price was expecting a decent meal. Unfortunately that wasn't the case. The burger itself was so small I had to open up my bun to see it. The toppings were also very sparse, apart from a huge wedge of tomato and lots of lettuce.

Also, the chips were just frozen chunky chips. For this price I would expect homemade chips and a burger that filled the bun it was nestled in, with plenty of the toppings as advertised on the menu.

I did complain to a member of staff, and asked her to tell the chef it was probably the most underwhelming burger I've ever had. I was not offered an alternative or even a discount on my food.

In all honesty most of the group I was with weren't that impressed with their food either.

I've only eaten a few Sunday roasts at the Pen y Bryn before this, which have been very good. But will not be...
