Lovely pub RIGHT near the beachfront, corner of a road with arcade/ice cream shop entrance on one side (road) and pub entrance just round the corner (same building). Seems a good idea for adults wanting entertainment for their kids and relaxation in the sunshine for themselves! As non-parents we really enjoyed it too - relaxed atmosphere with lovely staff and a good selection of drinks, love that the spirits have prices on - fiance fancied trying a couple of new things (we've been trying to drink less beer to be less bloaty!) And this really helped. The pub is dog-friendly (outside at least from what we saw) and plenty of cyclists stopping off for refreshments on their travels too. The steam train station is almost directly opposite the road with the train passing by the pub every couple of hours (depending on time of year/schedule). Lovely to watch from the pub and also a close attraction for kids and adults - we walked to Barmouth, caught the train back and of course stopped up the pub after! This does appear to be the only pub in Fairbourne (unless we missed others) but they don't take advantage of this fact and do a really good job of making it special for everyone visiting. We felt warm and welcome here so kept coming back (rather than just sitting at the place we were staying at). Also ordered food yesterday (both got the mega chicken burger) which was ENORMOUS but absolutely divine, so worth the food coma afterwards 😂 would have loved to try more menu items but sadly ran out of time whilst on our trip. Definitely worth a visit (or five!) Thanks for making our trip extra special 💕

After looking at Google pics of the outside we were slightly disappointed to see it in the daylight being a little weather beaten. Once inside though the place looked lovely and welcoming especially the bar area. Dogs are allowed if that either bothers or reassures you. There is plenty of room should you want to eat away from people with dogs? Ordering at the bar we ordered a pint of Corrs and a latte, pie and chips with gravy plus chicken curry, 50/50 chips/rice, 2 small nan breads, large poppadom with mango chutney. My curry portion (approx £10.95)size was definitely larger than anywhere else that I've previously ordered from and a great taste. The pie and chips (approx £10.95) was a good size too but maybe slightly more gravy needed. The place needs a slight update but that's just my personal opinion. Nearest carpark in right opposite with a charge but free for cars showing a blue badge.

We stopped at Penrhyn bar and grill for tea, after coming back from Barmouth via the steam train and ferry(highly recommend). The atmosphere was great and welcoming and the staff were friendly. The outside space and bar were clean and tidy with plenty of drink options. The menu is fabulous, especially for vegetarians and vegans. They have really made an effort to cater for non meat eaters. I had the vegetable lasagna, as recommended by a staff member, and it was delicious- made from vegetables rather than a meat substitute! Also ordered the belly pork, from the specials board, which was devoured! The kids menu has the typical items you'd find in most places so always something for those fussy eaters. The cheese burger was substantial and looked great, as did the pizza. Thoroughly enjoyed the couple of hours we spent there and would recommend to visitors.

Reading the reply from the owner, it makes sense that the members of staff are allowed to behave like that, it starts with management. Or maybe that person was the manager. We were 2 adults and 2 children at the table, not 6, and he was never polite, there were enough people around to witness it. The bag was full of children's things, not food and because of the shouting, we didn't even have time to see the menu. When we repeated multiple times we want to order food but the children can't wait, we were told "I don't care, mate!" You are NOT a child friendly place and the fact that you don't even acknoledge how scared the children got, it says everyting about the place. Your reply is everything people need to read to understand the disrespect they get when they visit the place. In fact, all your replies are only excuses and 0 responsibility, like mistakes never happen in this place. Absolutely terrifying member of staff, my children had a real scare.

On arrival, my husband went to the bar to order drinks and food. Because my children were starving, I gave them a sandwich. A male member of staff came rushing and started shouting at us that this is an eating place and we were not allowed to eat there. I explained calmly that I totally understand the rules and that my husband was ordering food right that moment, but my children are too young to understand that. He didn't care and continued shouting to "go eat on the fance, mate, I don't care!". My children started shaking and crying, giving the sandwich back and that broke my heart. That's why, when my husband came back with the drinks, we just place them on the table and left, for the wellbeing of my children. It's worth mentioning that the food waiting time was over an hour. However, we were more than happy to order food and wait for it as much time as it was required, but that didn't matter for that member of staff. I know my comment won't change much, but I felt the need to share. It's common sense not to bring food to an eating place, I know, but that's not the way you talk to someone, so aggressive and rude, especially not...

Attempted to visit here today for drinks, ice creams and the arcade but was refused entry because I am exempt from wearing a face mask. According to the male member of staff I should have an exemption card when I advised there is no legal requirement to wear / carry an exemption card he argued with me that there is before walking off. Having double checked the gov website for England and Wales just now there is definitely no legal requirement so I suggest the Penrhyn should do the same rather than discriminating against those that are medically exempt!! Amended after owners response - Any potential customers will see from previous reviews if the owner doesn't agree with the review (any that are not 5*) his choice words are N-b head, unfair and childish, pot kettle comes to mind. Isn't it ironic when during our encounter the owner wasn't wearing a face mask either, or any kind of exemption!! Some of us genuinely are exempt and if was the case for him he would be aware that you have no right to question us once we have informed you we are exempt as the reasons could be very personal. I would inform everyone to stay well clear of this let down to the...
