Spirit 'n' Spice Bar & Kitchen — Restaurant in Wales

This has the potential to be the best Indian restaurant in Wales...but it is not!

Visited here with a few visiting Indian relatives a couple of months ago.

Positives

Food taste and quality was excellent and traditional, interior of restaurant very good.

Negatives

service absolutely shocking, it's as if the staff have not had any training and never worked in a restaurant before. No management or leadership at all. For example, booked a table a week in advance and the table was not laid we were waiting 15 mins to be sat in a deadly quiet restaurant.

drink orders were taken, then we were waiting for drinks for 15 minutes (in an empty restaurant)

staff did not know what drinks were available

staff did not know what a biryani was (IN AN INDIAN RESTAURANT!!!)

waited an hour and a half for food

food finally came and there was no cutlery or plates to eat or serve our food onto the plates, staff did seem to realise and awaited ten mins

a dish we ordered did not come and then the chef came out and argued that we did not order it, we only mentioned it when they asked is if everything is okay.

menu had no dessert options available

Sort it out otherwise this business will be...

What a shame. Ownership is always changing and just seems to get worse as it goes. One of the new guys there is by far the most condescending person you will ever meet. He is destroying the restaurants' reputation. We have eaten in and had take aways from here for at least two years. The food is the tastiest with a great selection. But the service is absolutely horrific. Two times now the food has been over an hour late, with food missing each time. The most recent order had all the rice and a curry missing. After speaking to them on the phone we were told "the kitchen has sent the food and the delivery driver has delivered the food" to be called a liar whilst still starving was definitely interesting. After driving to the restaurant and confronting them they still wouldn't just cook the rest of the food. Picture attached is a note that was snuck to us by a waiter, whilst arguing with the owners.

My partner and I ordered during lockdown and collected the food. In a way it's a shame we can't eat in as the restaurant itself is beautifully furnished and the staff I met were very friendly and professional.

The food was a slightly mixed bag - on the whole it was very good, I enjoyed my meal in particular, the chicken seemed of a good quality and the sundries were really very good indeed. The sauce on my partner's food was too thick and heavy for either of our tastes though, although the flavour was perfectly nice. I found the menu slightly limited in choice and with a few dishes I hadn't heard of before (which I embrace as an opportunity to try new things). I just mention it because some people may not necessarily see it that way.
