Came in for the first time with my partner who is a manager at a separate Wetherspoon location and my 4 year old son for food yesterday around 4pm. Place was dark and dingey from the offset. Found a quieter table at the back but the table itself was full of crumbs. Ordered food and drink on the app. Whilst waiting for food there was multiple groups of people shouting+ swearing and no staff paid any attention. Our food was brought by a shift leader who didn’t speak more than 4 words to us. I told him our drinks hadn’t even arrived yet so he went to bring them, it had been over 10 minutes so the pint of coors was already flat. Ordered a portion of beans for my son and it was the tiniest portion I’ve seen, no more than a tablespoons worth, so ordered another portion which was brought by another manager with a knife and fork…. I asked for a spoon, he brought a spoon. Ordered another thing from the app and again, another manager brought it. So 3 mangers delivered stuff to our table but not once did we receive a check-back. All of the salt sachets were damp, so the salt was unusable. Chips looked like the oil was days old but burgers were good. Overall just felt like the managers did not care about the surroundings/atmosphere of the place or families there so won’t be going back...
Read moreAbsolutely terrible service. I entered the pub with my wife, father in law Andy two children at 8.20pm. We asked about food, they said it was OK and we ordered shortly after. Food was brought to us at 8.38 I went to the bar at 8.45. I was refused to buy any type of drink because we had minors with us. I'm absolutely outraged that they were OK to take our money and serve us food, yet refused to give me a drink to go with it. As a result I was unable to finish my meal. I struggle to eat without a drink. The worse bit is the girl that refused to serve me a drink is the girl that sold us the food! Even more of a shock was that after complaining about the situation, we were delighted to find out she was the shift manager. Now, I mean no disrespect by any means but she is clearly not far out of school, and certainly with the service we received she has no experience of actually running a busy established pub.
Thanks for ruining my meal and our family night out (it was only a late night treat as the Neath fair was there) so please don't slate my parenting ability.
I will never set foot in this place again.
I strongly suggest an actual management course for said member of staff. Its wrong to take out money for a meal and then refuse a further drink! It's...
Read moreHas that "local pub" feel, a lot of regulars and is usually fairly full, directly opposite the train station so you also get a lot of travelling people coming through as well. Drinks are superb and cheaper than competitors, as always with regard to Wetherspoon, their selection is unrivalled.
I had food on this occasion while passing through, opting for the brie and chilli jam chicken burger. Chips and onion rings were great, the burger was a bit lacklustre compared to usual due to the overpowering taste of the buttermilk coating. The burger would be far better served with a standard uncoated chicken breast in my opinion, as the flavour of the brie and chilli jam are overpowered and lost slightly on the buttermilk.
The only real negative was that one staff member smelled strongly of body odour. I appreciate it's a warm and hard environment to work in, but when you're working with food and popping to and from tables serving customers, I think there has to be a bit of awareness there, possibly a polite, private conversation...
