This review is based on multiple visits to this Wetherspoons location, where I've consistently experienced a decline in service standards. While I appreciate the value and atmosphere the brand offers, the issues with staff training and customer service at this particular pub are significant enough to warrant a formal complaint.

Bar Service & Waiting Times On my most recent visit, I found myself waiting in a queue of only a few people for nearly 10 minutes. Despite the low volume of customers at the bar, the staff appeared to be inattentive to the queueing system. I observed one customer who had just arrived being served before me, which was frustrating but understandable.

However, after patiently waiting for a few more minutes, the bar staff then proceeded to serve the person directly behind me. When I politely questioned why I was being skipped, the staff member offered no apology or explanation. This level of disregard for customers who have been waiting patiently is unacceptable and led to me walking out without being served.

This has happened on previous occasions as well and suggests a lack of proper training in managing a simple queue.

Staff Conduct Another troubling experience involved a staff member's aggressive and unprofessional conduct regarding the smoking area. Without any prior warning or clear signage indicating a non-smoking zone, a staff member rudely said, "YOU KNOW YOU NOT ALLOWED TO SMOKE THERE MOVE TO SMOKING AREA." I was taken aback by the confrontational tone, as I always interact with staff in a polite and respectful manner.

When I calmly asked him not to speak to me in that way, he escalated the situation by threatening to ban me. The way he spoke to me was completely unprovoked and a clear violation of basic customer service principles. The professionalism of your staff is a direct reflection of your establishment, and in this case, it was a very poor one.

Conclusion While Wetherspoons is generally a reliable option, this specific location fails to meet basic expectations for service and staff conduct. The consistent issues with bar service and the frankly appalling treatment from one of your employees make it difficult to recommend. I hope that management addresses these concerns as they are detrimental to the...

Food was cooked to perfection! Lemon Chicken with chips and coleslaw. Very nice! But not what made this a great visit!

I took my Dad out who has rapidly deteriorated mentally and was shouting random things which for me being the first time I've been able to take him out since lockdown was very upsetting to see the once strong proud man shouting. I'm a bit embarrassed and ashamed to say the attention was embarrassing and I was thinking I'm ruining these other people's lunches. But your staff were kind and went out their way to help me both when he needed the loo and also when I asked for sauce the guy could have just said like he did it's just around the corner but he saw and understood I couldn't leave my Dad and said it's ok and he went and got it, it's a small thing but all the same he went out his way, as did the lady behind the bar asking if he was ok.

Thanks very much for making one of my worst experiences in my life slightly better. Keep helping, keep smiling and keep that food nice and I'll be back with my family for...

A good example of the Dutch style of building popular at the turn of the last century. Built in 1911. It has a pleasant seating area outside with flower tubs. Inside the original layout has been treated sympatheticlly and the original wooden panelling has been left. The fireplace looks good too. Lots of fascinating pictures and photos from when steel was king in Shotton. Even the green and gold flocked wallpaper is in keeping. The staff were pleasant and friendly and the drinks served fairly quickly. Toilets upstairs with more pictures to gaze at and a gorgeous painting commissioned by Wetherspoons on the landing. It's worth going upstairs to see it, a beautiful depiction of dragonflies and waterlilies. The ladies were clean and tidy. I'd visit again if I was in the area.

Called in this morning while in Shotton. It wasn't particularly busy and yet I was ignored at the bar while waiting to order. It appeared the barmaid was also serving meals instead of concentrating on the customers awaiting service and no acknowledgement of me standing there as she walked past me twice . This is the only gripe as the food arrived quickly and more importantly HOT and was very nice. I would recommend the traditional breakfast but hopefully next time, the bar service will be of the same quality as the food

Be careful if you have pets, there is a tiny sign by the front door, that doesnt specify pets are not allowed at the outdoor seating area, the position of the sign makes it look like its saying no dogs inside. Also you wouldnt even notice this sign if you sit outside and just order on the app. The staff expect you to just know the company policy and the management refuse to give food refunds, after kicking you off the premesis. By far the worst experience iv had whilst eating out.
