Recommend +++. Me and my partner have been craving a proper Sunday roast out with flavoursome vegetables, good roasts, and proper Yorkshire puddings, but that is also vegan and vegetarian......and here we found it! Vegan: nut roast Vegetarian: glamorgan sausages. We both said how amazing it is. The flavour was there. The textures (we hate overcooked mushy veg) the atmosphere was warm and cosy (we picked our spot by the table), and the staff were so lovely and efficient. We also had dessert... my partner had the syrup sponge which she said was so good! And when I said I was vegan they went to the kitchen to see and they offered me fresh fruit and vegan cream! Normally I just got told "we don't have anything" Cannot recommend this place enough. If you're in the area....go!

Thank you Drew, kitchen crew and front of house. Just enjoyed a fabulous Sunday lunch at The Cock, Bronllys. Very generous portions. Our starters were Asian slaw and dumplings with a soy dressing - this was a little too salty for my taste but great crispy Duck Gyozas. As well as garlic mushrooms and lovely warm bread, too much for Mum but we brought some home to enjoy later. The Beef and Pork dinners were superb, so much veg, with a big hot bowl of creamy Cauliflower Cheese. Both meats were soft, lean and cooked lovely, with so many trimmings delivering such amazing value. 5stars indeed - it’s been a very long time since we enjoyed such a good pub Sunday lunch Thank you we will be back.

One of the absolute pleasures of when I come back to visit from Australia is visiting here. The food is absolutely amazing with all ingredients fresh. The owners are also amazing and welcoming and you’ll come away feeling you’ve known them for years. If you are ever in the area, drop in for a meal or drink and you’ll be glad you did.

I was told before visiting the UK that I needed to go to a pub. Did pubs in Cambridge, Oxford, London. Touristy areas as well as off the beaten path. I didn't get the hype. By random chance I booked a night at The Cock (I know). I get it now.

Food was traditional and perfectly executed. Beef Cheeks with melt in your mouth brisket and a wonderfully plated sticky toffee pudding (it's a crime I didn't take a pic) that was as good as it looked. Beer and food were reasonably priced.

Then there was the atmosphere. I struggle socializing with strangers. Steve and Melissa had that covered. They provided the perfect environment for a village pub that is welcoming to newcomers yet provides a sense of community. By the end of the night I was drinking with friends.

As for the room it was lovely. Cute decor, kettle and accessories for tea, and a comfy bed. Enough space you don't feel cramped.

This was my first time in Wales. I'll be back and I'll be staying at The Cock. If I could give it 100 stars out of...

Stayed last minute having been badly let down by another hotel at LD3 0AA. (please, never stay there!) The hosts at The Cock Hotel could not have been kinder. I had a funeral to go to the next day so I need to be well-rested. You would think that being over a pub would be noisy. It was in full swing when I arrived. I had driven a long way so I wanted a nice walk first which was lovely. When I got back, I had the best night's sleep in ages. There was a lovely hot bath, soap, beautiful decor, perfectly white towels, a window you could actually open, tea and coffee, a hairdryer, a heater if you needed it, (which I did not) a lovely wardrobe with two drawers and lots of hangers. Extra pillows and blankets, should you be in need. Someone nice has thought of everything. Thank you so much you fab people. You made my trip to Hay-on-Wye as good as it possibly could be without the Hay-on-Wye...

A great stay! There are two large comfortable rooms both with full size ensuite bathrooms. The rooms were well appointed, large comfortable beds, very clean with nice touches such as toiletries, plenty of tea/coffee/milk. We received a very warm welcome on arrival and instantly felt comfortable. Definitely book a table in the restaurant (it is deservedly popular). The locally sourced, home cooked food was delicious! Keep some room for dessert by the way. They're fabulous too! There was no noise at night so a good night's sleep was had. Breakfast isn't provided but the clearly laid out guest information will signpost you to some excellent nearby breakfast options. We chose the Honey Cafe a minute's drive away, where we had a great breakfast. It's worth looking for a reason to return to this welcoming and...
