We tried a few different pubs in the Brecon area whilst on holiday, The Red Lion Llangorse was the best by some way! Whoever carried out the refurbishment/set-up did a great job, the pub interior is simple, stylish, clean and cosy. Little details, like the glassware and tableware, fit well with the more premium feel. Staff were friendly and attentive, really nice to talk to, we felt well looked after.

The chefs clearly know what they are doing, the menu is not huge but what is on offer is done very well, and to a standard above the other pubs in the area. I had Beef Brisket croquettes to start, perfect with a cold pint of IPA. My wife and son went for the scallops which we agreed were very good. Mains, the wife went for bavette steak (something we like to see on menus) lots of flavour, prepared right, cooked perfectly. Me and my son had the burger, a little different from the norm with an aoli and a gravey included, which was great with the fries. My daughter had a simple kids pasta in a creamy cheese sauce, perfect for her, as no herbs or bits as she can be a bit fussy. Desserts continued to impress with a blueberry pannacota and a chocolate fudge cake accompanied by a local sheeps milk vanilla ice cream. Price wise we were very happy with around £140 with tip, for 4 people including 3 courses and drinks. Thanks to the team for a great experience which finished off our week...

Went to the Red Lion after a recommendation but was still expecting pub grub, be it of a slightly higher standard than other restaurants in the local area. What we got was such a pleasant and delicious surprise. One of the best meals I’ve eaten in Wales, at a reasonable price which belied the quality of the meal. The stripped back, country pub interior created an ambience which worked perfectly alongside the menu. The staff were all helpful and friendly, engaging in natural conversation rather than forced small talk. Lastly, the star of the show; the food. What, at first, appeared to be a basic menu, became a game changer with the skill of the kitchen staff. Perfectly cooked steak, with frites, became a culinary spectacular with a mushroom sauce accompaniment which tasted so good, I can’t find an adjective to describe it. My partner had the lamb with pasta which was also incredible. We both had the croquette starters; one veggie, one beef; both fantastic. We finished with a shared panna cotta which was a lighter option as we were both so full. Again, the depth of flavour in this dessert mirrored the other dishes we’d enjoyed. We thoroughly enjoyed our visit to the Red Lion and will definitely...

This review is a long time overdue but I think about Red Lion from time to time with a lot of fondness. I have been reminiscing so I'm finally writing this. My partner and I decided to visit for the first time when the place opened up again in the summer of 2023. We were welcomed warmly by the staff and other guests around the bar. We all engaged in great conversation, and since my partner and I were visiting from other countries, we got to ask questions about the area and history. Everyone was beyond friendly. My partner and I decided to try a few cool-sounding cocktails and were introduced to their new wine menu. Everything was delicious and we had the most fun. Pretty sure when we got indecisive, we just asked the bartender to make something of a certain vibe and he did not disappoint. The bar staff was both very charismatic and knowledgeable. Highly recommend this place. Hope to...

We were limited in our options to vegetarian only since they were not sure whether the meet was halal or not. I have to say they had a lot of good options for us and everything we had was just great. We arrived a but late but the Chef was nice enough to accept our orders before the kitchen was closed. I was surprised that an Inn in a small village would have that much of creativity in their dishes. I have never had beetroot ravioli before. And the vegan burger was too good. We also had alcohol free strawberry lime cider which was lovely. The staff were amazing, welcoming and friendly. They do not serve breakfast and they open at 12 in the weekends and 4 pm during the weekdays. Thank you for the lovely evening dinner.

Loved the tomato soup here and asked for a cheese sandwich ! Really well done! Wonderful lunch. A bit late in serving. Very close to the lake so perfect if you'd want to stop for a bite. Looks like it's for the localities but that's wonderful in getting the local feel and hearing the English accent which is wonderful! There is parking here.
