Port Eynon is a gorgeous beach in the Gower however itโs food situation badly lets it down. There are no shops to speak of ( apart from a small camping shop which sells just basics such as bread ) A greasy fish n chip experience and a pretentious over priced pub with zero customer service are the only alternative to the Smugglers Beach Bar , which in desperation we went to. I ordered the Philadelphia steakโฆ was ravenous after a whole day on beach . It didnโt look very busy ( apart from a few drunken people hanging around ) but I had to wait for over an hour for a small piece of bread with 2 small mushrooms and a minute, ragged piece of steak , both of these looked like theyโd been scraped of the remains of someoneโs plate . I understand that philly steak is supposed to be thin, but it didnโt mention in the menu this was basically a small bap with โฆ. Practically nothing in it . Steak was dry, leathery and as I say, it looked like the remains of someone elseโs left over steak sawn off. To pay nearly ยฃ12 and wait for 1 hour for this , is basically a p** take . Wonโt be returning and lesson learnt โฆ. Bring your own food...
ย ย ย Read moreBe carefull of the prices, bloke with the top knot (I believe his name is Cai) charged me ยฃ9+ for a medium sized wine and a pint of Gower gold, when I queried this as the usual price was ยฃ7+ I was met with an ignorant indifference, I then asked to see the price list and was again met with the same attitude. I told this ignorant person that I would be reporting the matter to Trading Standards and sat back at the table, next thing I saw him talking to the owner Donna and was then told to leave i tried to discuss with Donna but was met with the same ignorant indifference as Cai. I was accused of threatening Cai, but if saying that I would report the matter to Trading Standards is a threat then them saying that if we didn't leave they would contact the Police is in my eyes a greater threat. I am not the only person to have this experience and will never visit again as long as they are overcharging and not prepared to discuss. Be careful and check...
ย ย ย Read moreCalled in on a quiet and cold Thursday to receive the warmest of welcomes! And this was not just from the log burner! Had a cream tea, which included the best scone ever! The lady who served me was absolutely lovely, even fetching some water for my dog! Sorry, I forgot to mention that The Smugglers is doggie friendly! There is car parking nearby, and thoughtfully, a ramp has been built to the main door for easy access. The bar area is beautifully decorated and includes lots of interesting items of local history. I sat in an alcove to the front of the building, which had a photograph of the wreck of the Prince Ivanhoe. Everywhere was clean and tidy. I'll be back soon for a hot meal because I've read the comment made by others! Thoroughly...
