Our party of 4 called in here at 9am on Monday 24th February for breakfast. We ordered 2 swellies breakfasts and 2 larger breakfasts along with 4 slices of toast at an extra £4 plus 1 tea 2 lattes and a hot chocolate. The plates were stone cold along with cold breakfasts. The only thing that was slightly warm was the sausage. We begrudgingly ate the food because my wife and son wouldn't let me make a fuss otherwise I would have sent all the food back and payed for the drinks and left. When we got to the car i asked my son what the price was he wouldn't tell me until we were mobile. Once moving he said the cost was £86.50p. I said stop the car and return to the swellies because that price was way too high compared to the menu. My son stopped the car to work out what the price should have been. He then realised that we had been badly over charged and returned to the cafe to find out what mistake had been made. When he asked the lady about the over charge she said no I don't think so when the so called cook haha come out and said is their a problem ?. When they added it up they had over charged by £21.70p and the excuse was that the people sat on that table the day before must not have payed !!!. And what did that have...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreWhat a find! My son was desperate for pancakes and a quick Google search brought up The Swellies. We nabbed the last table and we were thrilled with the menu! It's rare for the veggie in the family to be spoilt for choice, so we knew we were in for a treat. We ordered a vegan breakfast, but swapped out some bits for veggie (mainly eggs!) a breakfast sandwich where you can choose any 3 items - it includes the veggie and vegan options so you can have a bespoke butty šš». I opted for bacon, halloumi and hash brown on a white roll and it was delicious. Then the little one got his much wanted pancakes - he decided on the adult stack, as there are 3 pancakes in this, compared to 2 for the kids meal. He chose Nutella, squirty cream and strawberries, but the berries hadn't been delivered so were substituted with blueberries. The portion was massive!! I'd planned on getting myself a slice of the lemon and blueberry cake I spotted at the till, but as some pancake was leftover, I finished that and it was superb. We all left with full bellies, and a bit of disappointment that we hadn't found this place earlier so we could revisit!!
The staff are fab, the food and atmosphere are excellent and there's something for everyone to...

āCould I get some toast to go with breakfast please?ā 15 minutes later and I really tried to make the breakfast last waiting for the toast. That pretty much sums the place up. The food is good, the place is nice. The service is totally 1970ās. Basil Fawlty all the way. Theyāre the only place open for breakfast and have no competition. That will change and all their business will go elsewhere.
āUPDATEāā- The reply states 1 star is harsh so obviously itās ok for staff to sayā¦
āWell weāre really busy and youāre not the only ones hereā
So itās ok to not bring all of someoneās order and not even apologise? I was really polite about it too. Iād zero stars for Swellies if it was possible.
3 times Iāve tried Swellies and every time the service has been awful. Never once has my coffee showed up within 30 minutes of my breakfast. The food is good but it isnāt great. The chef is good enough to get a job at McDonalds. Maybe he could learn about...
