called in for a drink after walking around gower on a friday afternoon , place had a strange vibe about it almost like it was stuck back in the 1940’s its in dire need of a full refurbishment.....at the bar the service was less than welcoming for a non local, someone whom i assume must of been the landlady as she was so ignorant served me , and i was charged around 12 pound for a single gin & tonic and a pint of lager which is extremely expensive for the area but i paid up none the less ....unfortunately this was a big mistake as when i took a sip of the lager i could immediately tell it was watered down ....i dont know if the locals turn a blind eye to this kind of skullduggery but i wasn’t having any of it .....after asking for a replacement the woman that served me flew into a fit of wild defensive rage .....im sorry but any honest establishment would of just said yea sorry sir our mistake heres another not try and tell me i was mental im just thanking my lucky stars i didn’t order food as it probably would of been 8 months out of date .......seriously guys if your not from the local area avoid this...
Read moreI'm not rating The Valley as a hotel/accomodation, I'm not actually sure if it has rooms to be honest....we didn't use them anyway. We did however stop by for a meal on Super Saturday of the Six nations and the place had a great set-up for sport (there's a whole additional outdoor heated, covered seating area too to add to that). We wanted to catch the end of the Wales Vs England game as we headed back from a trip on the Gower. It was an awesome surprise, where instead of an overpriced tourist trap, we found a warm, friendly down to earth pub-style venue with absolutely EXCEPTIONAL food. You can tell the chef knows what he's doing, and has managed to bring a high end approach to quality into the menu but without any pretention. We had deep fried oysters (done amazingly, these are very hard to not over-do), the Korean Fries (steak done exactly as asked) and the veggie/vegan (cant remember) Beef Wellington which was an appreciated mest free option. Some of these were specials. All very fairly costed, you won't be...
Read moreWe had travelled up to Swansea from west Wales on a warm and sunny Bank Holiday Saturday for an evening show in the city. The plan was to have an afternoon meal in Mumbles beforehand. We gave up on that idea after crawling nose to tail into Mumbles, which was heaving with visitors, and diverted to Bishopston. The Valley was quiet mid-afternoon and the staff were friendly. The food was good and the batter on the fish we ordered was scrumptious. Although I ordered an apple crumble and custard for dessert, what I got, I believe, was blackberry crumble (the filling certainly was the colour of blackberries and tasted more like them than apple). It was delicious anyway. I would go to The Valley again. Note: If you’re travelling from Swansea to The Valley then it’s best to take the B4436 via Mayals and Clyne Common rather than go via Mumbles and Caswell Bay (where the roads are...
