Golden Fleece — Restaurant in Waverley

Wow - wasn't expecting that. Small portion and tasted absolutely awful, the worst I've had...like it had been bought from Iceland for 99p per kg and shoved in the deep fat frier.... Had decided to order some takeaway starters to take home and try out the Thai from the Golden Fleece as normally go to The Giggling Squid. We ordered 3 portions of the Deep Fried Squid. All 3 portions were squashed into a box about 4x5x3 inches. It was so tiny I questioned where the other 2 portions were. The cost was nearly £17 for this. I questioned The Thai lady who said that was 3 portions in that box. I walked away and opened it in the car....I struggled to believe it. So went back in and she assured me that it was 3 portions (even though only 2 portions of sauce had been provided). 4 very small rings per portion with not even a garnish..tasteless and dry. Guy who seemed in charge behind the bar wasn't keen to get involved. I should have asked for a refund but was already embarrassed enough questioning this at the bar in a busy pub. What a shame, wont be back or recommend - have they changed...

Ordered the Pad Gaprow, which is typically served with finely chopped or minced meat, together with a generous amount of chillies and fresh basil. We've eaten this dish a lot in restaurants in SE Asia and the UK, so we were excited to have the chicken and beef options. Our meals were not spicy at all, had no basil, and came as large slices of beef and chicken. Basically, we received an average bowl of stir fried beef and stir fried chicken. Not Pad Gaprow. When I asked the staff about this I was told that they had no basil left and that we had to request the meat to be finely chopped. Why were we not told this when placing the order? The explanation struck me as disingenuous. Won't be...

We drove 15 minutes to collect our Thai takeaway from the Golden Fleece. On arriving back home it turned out they had forgotten some food on the order. We called them to notify them and no apology was offered and we were told we could come and collect the missing items. On arrival back at the pub, the lady behind the bar was extremely rude and demanded additional payment for the missing items despite having to make the additional journey to collect the food due to no fault of our own. Hospitality is all about service and this was very disappointing to see. The food is okay but we will not be visiting again - not because of the food but because of how we were treated by the lady...
