The Elephant Café — Restaurant in Wealden

Well, we have been to this cafe before- many times, the food has always been excellent and a very nice menu full of food for everyone. But just today, we came and the menu has been changed to a very short and what comes across as LAZY menu. The menu was 1 page with very large gaps between each meal choice. e.g: pancakes

veggie english breakfast.

i was NOT impressed. as well as that they had told us that three of the meals were unavailable, including pancakes! Pancakes is a safety net when i can not get my kids to eat anything remotely healthy! the kids menu has been shortened to just five meals, one of them being unavailable. Service was slow, food was cold. also, my daughter usually has a sausage sandwich but sausage and bacon sandwiches were off the menu. i asked whether or not they could do one anyway as sausages were on the menu, the waitress i asked, very rudely said ‘NO! we have to stick to the menu!’ really disappointing and both kids ended up having a hot chocolate and sharing a cake. i hope that they take this as feedback and leave a response! won’t be coming for...

We had lunch here 2 years previously and thoroughly enjoyed it so we returned today hoping for a similar experience. We arrived at around 11:15 and after waiting a long time for service, we eventually ordered coffees and breakfasts. The waitress warned us there would be a 20 minute wait for the coffees because the cafe was busy. 45 minutes later we were still waiting. When we checked if our order had perhaps been forgotten, we were told the coffees would be with us soon. We gave up and left at 12:30 without ever having received our coffees - never mind our food! Nice place and waiters are friendly. However, service was terrible. We ordered a hot chocolate, an English breakfast tea and croissant. Not very complicated. My wife got her hot chocolate fairly quickly. She finished her drink long before we lost patience and asked the waiter about my tea. He forgot it. So I got my tea about 15 minutes after my wife finished her drink. The croissants never arrived. We didn't bother to ask about them. Poorly organised place.
