Every time we visit here we are disappointed. I don't like to leave a bad review, but the NT really need to get a grip here.
Always out of something: today was not a busy day, Monday 1pm. Sign says lunch served 11:30-2:30 so smack bang in middle. Already run out of jacket potatoes, pasties, coffee cake, and all but ham or tuna sandwiches. This is not the first time either.
The tables are often dirty: I guess the self clear trolley for trays means people take their dirty stuff up and the tables then don't get wiped. The high chair was dirty and needed several baby wipes to clean it.
Secret charges for salad: ordered a sausage roll (one of just left!), asked if we wanted side salad with it, no mention this is £2 extra! We aren't talking a bowl either, literally a few leaves.
Always a queue due to bizarre way of serving: you order and they make you wait around for drinks at the end of the till, yet food comes to your table. The problem is there is no space to put your tray down, the area is small, and you might be waiting 5 or more mins for drinks when they are busy, with a tray that has cakes, cans and other things on.
What we had was OK, but it wasn't special. This is not just a one off, it is consistently bad here compared to other...
Read moreToday we went to Sheffield park and decided to eat in the Cafe instead of providing our own picnic. We saw others in the queue walking by having ordered Mozzarella Pasta Salad and Jacket Potatoes with Bean Chilli, looked good , a decent size and 'only" c£9.50 each. We ordered what we had just seen, but asked if we could "take-it-away to eat in the Park, they nicely said yes. What came was literally half a portion in two "minuscule" cardboard containers. They had clearly found two small boxes and put in what would fit: I was shocked that these tasteless minute offerings had cost me almost £20. Even more so, as I watched others with their decently sized food portions on normal plates who were walking by. Was I angry ? YES!Lesson learnt: do not ask for a take-away serving and probably do not get ripped off by them again by eating their extortionately...
Read moreVisited Sheffield Park yesterday for the first time. A beautiful place but the cafe was such a disappointment. The set up is terrible which meant queuing for a long time into a small room. There appeared to be lots of staff hanging around the kitchen whilst customers were waiting to pay/get their hot drinks. I ordered a beetroot and goats cheese quiche, served with salad leaves and coleslaw. It was terrible. Couldn't taste the goats cheese, the beetroot wasn't fresh and it looked like it wasn't homemade. Dry salad leaves and a blob of coleslaw. This establishment could be incredible considering its surroundings but next time I go to Sheffield Park I'll...
