Hi one and all. I went to Homely Maid to with a very good friend. We used a Groupon The sandwiches were very well filled with Tune mayo and cucumber, grated cheese and tomatoes, egg and cucumber, good quality boiled ham luttuce, tomato, cucumber and mayo. The bread was lovely freshly baked soft white and equally great freshly baked soft light brown. The sandwiches were cut nice and thick with the crust removed of course as it should be for afternoon tea. The scones were all just as fresh large in size and there was a choice if plain and current. Strawberry jam real butter and clotted cream. There was also a further selection of cakes chocolate backed éclairs, chocolate cup filled to the top with a lovely tasting raspberry mouse, and macroons. There was 2 of each of these small delights. My friend had the fizzy wine and as u was driving I had a proper pot of tea made with real tea ( not in a bag) another lidded tea pot filled with piping hot water, milk. It was served in a proper tea cup and saucer. The sandwiches and cakes were all served up on good old fashioned bone china that's making a come back. The decor was in keeping with the building that was well over hundered years old but it was still very light, cozy, clean and fresh. We were welcomed Warmley by the lady that was also serving other customers the tea rooms were very busy for the time we were there. A fair haired lady that I believe is the owner was also very attentive towards us. My friend also had a cup of tea that we were not charged for. There was so much wonderful food we even took home a doggy bag. My friend and I have been to a few different places now to have afternoon tea but Homely Maid has by far been the best. We will definitely return soon iam sure. The only tiny thing that I could find fault with was the tea and what was very hot water cooled quickly I like my tea hot but if a tea cosy was used on the tea pot and water pot it would not spoil it 1 little bit just add to the ambiance. Thank you so much Homely Maid you helped in making my friends birthday present...
Read moreHere is somewhere you will find the old way of doing things. A little time, a few quality ingredients, and some real old fashioned cooking. Not just stuff reheated in a microwave. It's great just to sit and enjoy a conversation, without someone on a phone or a fruit machine, or just rushing in without a care as to their surroundings. Yes it is a little small and you may not always be able to get a seat straight away, but somethings are worth waiting for. Plus this is the only place for many miles around you can buy bread pudding, but yes it is...
Read moreNot really to our taste breakfast-wise. Coffee a bit weak, bacon very pale, eggs overdone, had to ask for sauces and didn't get asked if everything was ok ... fundamental part of waiting on tables. Don't get me wrong, it wasn't bad, breakfast was ok, not to our taste and maybe the coffee was weak due to used to having it quite strong 🙄 . I've been in once before for afternoon tea and it was beaut, we also took away something from the bakery after and they were lush, just breakfast was a...
