It costs at writing £2 to park by the restaurant, which is at the top of a gentle slope down to Bewl Water. As you walk in, a room to your left has hot and soft drinks and some snacks to take away. Go past it to enter the restaurant.
The airy, wood-floored restaurant has an unimaginative selection of the sort of food you could find in most schools in England at lunchtime. From my visit, I could recommend the competently done fish and beef pies, with which we took decent chunky chips (potato mash and thin-cut chips were options) and grilled vegetables (which were good). The hot vegetarian option was uninspiring cauliflower cheese. There is a cold selection (pasta, olives, coleslaw etc).
But of course you do not come here for the food but for the lake. The Waterside Restaurant sits atop a gentle slope down to Bewl Water. There is outdoors seating with tables from which you can enjoy the prospect in good weather. There is a playground past the main entrance for the little ones and also a pirate-themed little "adventure" playground by the water, by where you can wade out. A water taxi on the hour will take you around Bewl Water in 40 minutes from the jetty (cost per head £6 at writing), and you can hire pedal boats.
All in all, the Waterside Restaurant therefore is a good place to eat because of the amenities to which you will...
Read moreA lot of people are blaming the cafe for the £7 parking. The parking price is awful and needs addressing, but I'm not sure if you can blame the Cafe for that.
Food was good, view was lovely, the price wasn't too high for the food, chips were amazing! We had one issue the second lot of fries were missed but that was sorted out quick and without fuss. Guy on the till was nice about it and just got it all sorted.
£2.50 for a Pepsi is a little steep, maybe a drinks machine would allow the prices to drop.
Seating was comfortable, tables were clean, allows dogs.
Minus that parking fee I'd visit more.
Although a note I forgot to say the sausages are NOT dog friendly, maybe they could obtain some unseasoned sausages for dogs. Maybe plain pork ones, 6 for £2 at a super market and sell them at 75p each pre cut for pups ready to go. Allows for £2 profit per pack if you account 50p for cooking...
Read morePoorly run cafe staffed by extremely surly teenagers who clearly have not the slightest clue about catering and who are doubtless badly paid. The food here looked half-burnt and expensive. Coffee and Tea is served in cheap cardboard cups that burn your hands. Not a proper china cup in sight. No doubt this "cafe" was some kind of concession given to the lowest bidder and managed by someone who has no concept of value, food, service or interest in food.
Bewl water is meant to have been "improved" after the debacle of the last owners, but in fact if anything it is worse than before. This disgrace of an "activity" centre offers virtually no activities unless you consider hiring flithy, mud-caked bikes as an attractive proposition.
Poor management, inept catering, poorly staffed and an...
