Burger King — Restaurant in West Devon

This rating is heavily influenced by the service. I'm a BK fan anyway so I knew that when I drove past the Okehampton services at about 5 that I would be stopping there on the way home a few hours later.

The time arrived (a little later than I thought) and as I drove back I popped in and placed my order with the young man behind the till. Pleasant enough, asked all of the usual questions and told me that I'd have to wait about 5 minutes as it'd have to be cooked from fresh. I wasn't really in a rush or anything so it wasn't a problem and I could also see that it was just him on the till and food prep so it was fair enough.

Sat down, waited. No problem. Sure enough, about 5 minutes later he called me up and asked again the usual questions about sauces etc. I said I was fine thanks and thanked him for the meal and we exchanged pleasantries and I went to head off.

As I was leaving, I noticed the gent follow me from round the counter and as I left the premises he locked the door behind me. Slightly odd I thought but then I assumed it was it was probably pretty late and all of the other places in the services were shut anyway so thought nothing of it until I got back in my car.

Upon checking the clock it was almost ten past 9.

This guy had taken my order, made it himself and not even bothered me with the fact that they might even be closing soon. What a hero. He could have said something like, 'Sorry sir, we're closing now.' and I would have checked my watch, thought that was fair enough and headed into the petrol station for a sandwich instead. He could have hidden in the back of the store and I would have figured that they were closed anyway as the subway next door was closed and there was no food prepped to serve so again, I would have just gone to grab a sandwich.

This absolute legend though took the time, like a true pro, to take my order, be as nice as pie, give me the courtesy of telling me how long it would take and then make the food HIMSELF. All without even once mentioning the fact that, 'You know sir, we are about to close.'

If I had a hat on I'd take it off to you sir and you definitely deserve some sort of recognition. I don't know how BK do that, like with gold stars of employee of the month or whatever but you certainly made my evening after what was a really long...

Burger King has always been a bit more expensive than McDonald's but the food was slightly better. Unfortunately this is no longer the case.. You don't expect much at a motorway services, but hope for a little with the premium you pay. Ordered food from one of the self service machines and watched as the fresh food slid down to be handed over. Unfortunately, the clueless lad at the till kept serving customer after customer who struggled to use self service, leaving the food to slowly go cold. After watching this for a while I realised a bit if intervention was required, asking if I could have my food. Finally, food in hand, I set to eat my current special. I would have been better off earing the wrapper. I don't think I have ever been more disappointed in the food (and I have pretty low standard). Completely tasteless. I think this has cemented me avoiding Burger King as the food is no where as good as it used to be, and certainly not for the additional cost they are to comparable fast food...

This Burger King is located just off the A30 and if you are unfortunate enough to have to go out of Cornwall for any reason its quite a handy place to stop both for food and there is also fuel on the same site. The staff here are always friendly and helpful and the restaurant itself looks reasonably clean (although on a previous visit whilst there was apparently some staff training going on one of the staff was serving whilst chewing gum which put me off visiting for some time afterwards). Unfortunately the building itself has a slightly rundown feeling and although the toilet area was re-done a few years ago it all still feels just a bit "grotty" that being said I have stopped here many times in the past and have never had any issues. Unfortunately burger king appear to have been tinkering with their app again so the meals are not as good value as they were so next trip I will probably continue to...
