Yesterday I booked a table for 3 people one of them being in a wheelchair that went well. We had driven a long way to come to this place. On arrival we went shown our table and then waited over 10mins before someone came to take our order cream tea. When the cream teas arrived the scones were very dry (not freshly baked) the clotted was just enough for one scone not two, the jam was very dark colour and didn’t taste of strawberry jam and also very small portion , even the teapot was small just enough for one and a half cups of tea not good is it for the price of £7.50. Also the smell of fish and chips did put us off a little. So overall very slow service, dry scones, very small portions so as a Chef / Baker of 50+ I know what I’m talking about, this place for me is a F-L place FRIST & LAST TIME I visit make fresh scones it’s not...

Set on the main street, just down the road from dartmoor prison in the beautiful little village of Princetown, it's the Village fish and chip shop with a restaurant. They are not very big and it has a family run feel, the food and service are always brilliant, specially the fish and chips which are some of the best I have ever tasted, they have a full menu though and cover most tastes. Something I think I should mention,we have been many times after walking on the moors, and never have we smelt that horrible odour of old oil that needed changing two days ago.. They are also dog friendly, ours always lays under the table, unfortunately they don't have a dog menu though. Can get very busy in the summer,as they do coach parties aswell. Would highly recommend, definitely punching above...

Had a lovely day out on Saturday went to Tavistock had coffee then had a trip over Dartmoor was a lovely day called in for fish and chips in Princetown which we have been too many times before the Service let us down this time very poor we had our tea and ordered our fishing chips but 45 minutes later we were still sitting there with cold tea we could see people coming in and getting served before us. Some only sitting there for 10 minutes got fed up in the end and told the waitress we were going as we were fed up waiting she said it’s just been plated up and I said you said that last time before you’ve just served that table , so we are very disappointed after having a lovely day out on my...

This place is so bloody surprising. We walked in and were tempted to walk out, ‘cause it looked so dated. The other half said “I kinda like the outdated look of the place” so we went in. Boy were we surprised. I ordered large (don’t get small, large isn’t large) cod and chips with mushy peas and the other half ordered a roast dinner (at 16:00 on a Tuesday). We discussed how it could easily disappoint and waited to see what turned up. This place has a chippy attached to it so the cod and chips HAD to be good - it was. The roast dinner claimed fresh vegetables, which we doubted, but they were. Roast potatoes seem frozen but still tasted ok. Our plates were both absolutely cleared.

It's a busy place overall with a mixture of sit down cafe, chips shop take away, and gift shop/ local gallery. The food is good quality, generous in portion, but not high-end cusine: it's a cafe not a resturant after all. The wait in the cafe is a little long as the focus for speed seems to be subsumed by the take-away side of things. Overall, I would recommend it at the drop of the hat as a great place to eat/drink and especially recoop after an exhausting visit to the Moor. The attached photo is the Ploughman's lunch, a little un-conventional in format but very tasty: homemade pickle, generous portions of cheese and ham, fresh crunchy coleslaw, warm baked roll, etc.

Are you planning to visit Dartmoor? - The Old Police Station cafe is a must on your Dartmoor itinerary! We’re regular visitors of Dartmoor National Park and this Lovely cafe is in the middle of Prince Town, “renowned for its friendly service, good food and stunning location”. Our fourth visit to the cafe, the experience was great each time. This visit, family ordered large battered fish & chips and chocolate sundae. It was perfect! However, I am still awaiting to taste a traditional roast on the menu as they run out of beef roast & Yorkshire pudding quickly. I can’t wait for our next visit here.
