On arrival the staff 2 females were friendly but seemed very busy. Went to ordered hot drinks to be told the machine wasnt working. If it had of only been me and my daughter i would of left and found somewhere else as it was a cold wet day and we both needed a hot drink. We had others meeting us so we stayed. In waiting to order. I was struck by that toilet smell and found it to be the next room where the disabled toilet door was left open. On looking around there were cob webs and dust. How ever the food was nice it was warm/hot. The beef was a bit tough maybe slightly over cooked. The others meals looked good and my guessed said they were nice. We had quite a wait for desserts which we didn't understand why,? as by the time that bit came around we were 1 of only 3 others eating. We had to go and ask about the puddings in the end. We witnessed a couple clear glass off a table as all the tables had been used but not cleared properly. When the staff was free she came round with cleaner and cloth and did all the tables then reset them. With covid still very highly out there as soon as the people left the tables should of been cleared and cleaned for cross contamination would of most definitely happened when the older couple clear bits off the table so they could then order food and eat. Unfortunately with everything that went on these were the only pictures I got. I think the pub needs a good deep clean as on arrival it looks nice but once sat waiting and waiting you look around and notice alot more. I hope they pick things up as I've always enjoy going there. The food was around £12. For a Sunday roast

UPDATE

We went for a Sunday lunch, but was definitely later part of lunchtime. 3:30 ish. The tables were clean and tidy, and not sticky, a pet hate of mine. Young lad with long hair was really polite, helpful and giving a good vibe. The waitress a young lass, busy and smiling. The atmosphere was relaxed and enjoyable. The price was good, especially with the friends and family discount, so 2 roast, 2 large drinks £30. Really can't grumble at that. The food was fine, but can only give a 'fine'. It wasn't the best, wasn't the worse. I wonder if we had come earlier if might have been better. Only got 2 thin slices of meat, the carrots were rubbery. The stuffing ball so dry it crumbled as did the bacon on the pig in blanket, and sausage hard. It was obvious it had all been sitting around a while sadly. I have given 3 star over all and not 2, because the staff couldn't be faulted. So next time, I'll maybe go earlier and see if it's better food quality.

So I was invited back to prove my first experience was an one off. That shows great management in my eyes, and I was more than happy to take up the invite. The roast dinner duo we had again, and this time was amazing. My meat delicious, veg crunchy and fresh. I really can't fault today. I don't usually eat Yorkshire pudding but ate mine. The meal was freshly prepared and you could taste it. The staff are faultless, full of smiles and give off a good energy and vibe, even though running about and busy in their rush hour of a Sunday dinner peak time.

I will be returning and recommending in the future. Thank you to all the staff and management for correction of our first experience, it speaks volumes about you as a business.

Look forward to eating...

I had a mixed grill, which in itself was cooked ok. The weirdest thing is that it was served in a bowl. If you have ever tried to cut a steak with a steak knife in a bowl, then you will realise that it is not an easy feat. We questioned the management about this and was told that on busy days they serve food in bowls. I say buy some more plates please... My partner had a Sunday roast (again in a bowl) unfortunately she couldn't eat hers as the vegetables were still raw and the chicken had been grilled to within an inch of it's life (grilled not roasted). I have been here before and had pleasant experiences so was a little bit disappointing this time. Cannot fault the staff though as we complained about the meal and were given a refund for both meals and only paid for our drinks. Although disappointed with the food, the staff were excellent in the way they handled the whole thing and so we will definitely give them another try in the future. Anyone can have a bad day...
