Our booking had been scratched out for some reason but we were given a table as the restaurant was fairly quiet. The waitress was new and it took a while to get our glass of cabernet sauvignon as she was unsure what we wanted. Our starters arrived in a timely manner and were very nice. I had ribs and my wife had the king prawns. When our empty plates were collected the waitress asked if we wanted her to let the kitchen know we were ready for our main courses. We asked if we could wait and let her know when we were ready. When we signalled that we were ready for our main course they brought us the bill. The older lady, who I think was the owner's partner, brought us the bill and when we looked confused said, "Oh thought you wanted your main course but I printed the bill just in case". We thought it a little strange 😂. The mains arrived and my pizza looked ok and not too large which was good. My wife's seafood linguine looked very dry. When she asked for oil the guy who bought the dish, possibly the owner, didn't seem to know what she meant and she had to clarify with olive oil or chilli oil. He asked if she wanted balsamic vinegar but after repeating her request she got olive oil. We also had to ask for parmesan cheese and black pepper. It's always been offered as a matter of course at most Italian restaurants. My wife found the linguine lacking in flavour and had to add lots of olive oil and lemon to make the food more tasty. About a third of the way through my diavalo pizza I realised there was no pepperoni on it. When I complained I was offered no reason for this but they did offer me a fresh replacement. However, I declined the offer as I knew it would be a waste of food as I was quite full already. The pizza was, although not correct, quite tasty and cooked pretty well. I suggested that the pizza wouldn't be charged for but I was told it would be half price. Trying to attract the attention of the staff for drinks and the bill wasn't easy despite three waiting staff being on duty and only 5 or 6 tables being occupied. When I tried to get the bill the main lady and the waitress were drying cutlery in full view and the main man was on his phone behind the bar. We eventually got the billl, put cash on the table and left. They made no attempt to recognise our departure, it took me to say goodbye for them to acknowledge us. It was our wedding anniversary and we wanted it to be a lovely evening but unfortunately it wasn't and I don't think we'll be going back unless we hear it's improved drastically. ...
Read moreWe dined here as a couple midweek. We were seated straight away, which was just about the highlight of the evening!
As soon as we sat down, the atmosphere was very weird. It felt like we were sat in a local cafe, not a restaurant. I could hear everyone’s conversation and the questionable guests next to us, I could have held hands with. We were that close. Not enjoyable.
We waited some time for a drinks order to be taken, as a waitress myself I can understand a wait but it was unnecessary when they were just stood around talking. My partner ordered a coke and I ordered a mimosa. The mimosa was classed as a cocktail and was £11! We dine out quite often, never have we paid this much for half a glass of Prosecco and orange juice, even at a lot more upmarket restaurants. It also had ice in, a crime against Prosecco!
Now onto the food, we ordered calamari and mushrooms in the creamy sauce. The calamari was chewy, which does sometimes happen but it was expensive considering the quality. The calamari is nicer at The Stag next door. The mushrooms were essentially mushrooms in a cream coloured water. No taste whatsoever.
At this point I felt unwell so we decided to take our mains home. We ordered a margherita pizza and a beef pasta. The pizza was very strange, not wood fired type or fresh like I’d expect at an Italian. The dough was weirdly sweet and still doughy. We did eat this because we were hungry but wouldn’t recommend at all. The beef pasta, went straight in the bin. It was absolutely disgusting, the ‘beef’ pieces were like hard small dog food strips. The dish was covered in red onions, which weren’t mentioned in the description, and it smelt awful. It was like a very terrible ready meal, asdas are much nicer.
As a couple who regularly spend £100-£150 on meals out we would not pay the £70 here again. It was truly awful and we won’t be re-visiting. Everyone who I have spoke to since has said when they’ve been it was either reasonably...
Read more1st time back since it's reopened. The new refresh looks good and the seating/ tables are nice. We had a table booked at 7pm we turned up 5 mins early and we're seated quickly. It took the waiter 15 before they took our drinks order. Drinks were fine, we waited another 15 mins before they took our food order in the meantime they had us move tables because of a larger group whio turned up. We obliged but it was frustrating. The starters turned up relatively quick and we're nice along with some cheesy garlic bread. The table enjoyed their starters. The mains came about 15 mins after the starters . The steak was excellent. The pizzas were too cheesy and it had congealed to the point neither person with pizza finishes them. When the staff eventually cleared the table they didn't ask if everything was ok as we clearly hadn't finished the food. The dessert board came to the table but about 3/4 items were sold out so none had dessert. Bill came to nearly £200 for 5 people with just 2 drinks each. Overall the food was ok. The service was pretty poor and they didn't seem that friendly. There were people walking around filming the restaurant with phones. Probably for social media none was asked if they wanted to be on film. We won't be returning...
