13th August 2025 ā€˜Wandering Wednesday’ this week took Neil and I to another little gem of a family run pub in Golborne, just outside Warrington……16 minutes drive from where we live. There is a menu to look at and also a specials board but it does state on the website that this will vary as all the produce is sourced locally, therefore giving a varied menu to what produce is available each week……all for it, using local small businesses, all supporting each other……. Plus it’s a great idea and lovely surprise not knowing what’s on the menu till you get there! The pub itself is olde Worlde, spacious and spotless, lovely potted plants outside which were all in full bloom and well cared for….. all staff were dressed in uniform, which always makes them look smart…. Our server was a lady called Tracy, who was very pleasant, professional and attentive….. thank you Tracy. (Tracy…..Without the ā€˜e’!😃) We both had the same today and went straight to entrĆ©e’s from the specials board. We had a ā€˜Pepe burger’, a 6oz Angus beef patty, topped with a garlic bread slice, melted cheese throughout, also smothered in peppercorn sauce on a Brioche bun, served with chips, side salad and coleslaw, we doubled up on the patty for a double stack, you could tell the burger was homemade, it was juicy and all beef, really delicious…… we ordered a side of onion rings to share but I forgot to take a photo until they were half gone!!! We 100% would return back to our newly discovered Golborne pub…. A great all round, proper country pub.

Enjoyed a quiet lunch with friend , had fish which was cooked to perfection , staff attentitive but not in your face. 2019 , met up with friends for evening meal , quite busy as it had been Race Day at Haydock , ordered meal wasn't too much of a wait , food arrived piping hot , we all thoroughly enjoyed, staff friendly, decided to have a dessert and again not too long of a wait , desserts were delicious , a nice end to our day , called to see friend and decided to have lunch , I had the Seafood Salad , what a delight , food all freshly prepared and plenty of it friend had the cheese and onion with mushrooms on a Panini which she thoroughly enjoyed too , keep up the good work šŸ‘šŸ‘šŸ˜€

An excellent restaurant and pub with a great menu and a dozen or more specials each week. A wide selection of beers and wines including three ever changing cask ales. Friendly efficient staff and it takes Tastecard. Very popular so it can get very busy.

Having been invited to a family birthday meal at these premises, I was looking forwards to the home cooked food, ambiance and good service which I have received previously on numerous occasions, but sadly on my recent visit , myself and guests were left bitterly disappointed by the quality of the food and service. What has happened to this place, has it changed hands or what. Our party was booked in for 6pm and despite all arriving on time we were told that we would have wait for a further 20 mins because our table was still occupied. This dragged on and it was nearly 7pm before we could be seated as those occupying the table were dragging their heels on leaving despite the premises being busy and people waiting. Our Drinks and food were quickly ordered but we had to wait until nearly 7.45 pm before the food arrived. A few guests ordered chicken which was very dry, chewy and appeared overcooked. The beef burger was dry and hard. Chips and vegetables were lukewarm. The steak pie which use to be a reasonable portion was very small and lukewarm. This was not of the usual standard from what I have experienced before. The portion sizes for the price were unacceptable. Also drinks orders were not correct whereby non alcoholic drinks were substituted with alcoholic drinks. We had intended to order sweets but we're put off by the long wait by which time everyone had lost their appetite. All I All this was a bad experience having enjoyed many good meals in the past. I am reluctant to...

The first time everything was fantastic food owner it was that good we went again. We are a group that’s set up I’m checking out pubs that will be good for our meetings I used to be a secret dinner. So I still use the same speel to see how they react. If you click on lowest score reviews you can see my points have been raised with other people.Especially with ethnic minorities. He targeted a lady in our group that was Indonesian. He was rude and whispered things under his breath. I can lip read!! My meal was taken away when I went to the toilet he offered to give me another portion of veg. I don’t want veg on its own I had a few chips left my sauce and all my veg. I said I’ll take a pudding home with me can I have it a Ā£1 cheaper has a good will gesture. He went on about me taking food out of his child’s mouth. WHAT. I had my meal taken away that’s always the best bit. always look at all the reviews. Especially single out the bad ones if a lot are saying the same thing there...
