Went to Taybarns today after reading mixed online reviews- many of which were negative. Decided to go along and make up our own mind! Had a really pleasant evening. We were greeted straight away by a very friendly and helpful member of staff who offered to explain how the restaurant worked incase we hadn't been before. Considering we went on an extremely busy bank holiday Monday, we found a table easily, there was plenty of food to choose from and any food getting low was replaced very quickly with a new batch. In regards to people complaining about the cleanliness of the place- the tables (and floor!) were clean and as soon as we had finished two of our courses our plates were taken away to be cleaned. Two members of management were often seen checking on what was happening behind the counters and around the customers. One lady (I assume to be a supervisor/ member of management due to wearing a blouse rather than the polo shirts other staff were wearing) also went herself to sweep up food that had been dropped. There was plenty of variety of food- more so for meat eaters (I'm a vegetarian and would have liked a bit more choice) However I still found there was plenty for me to eat and got too full before I could try it all! For anyone with a sweet tooth, the desserts were amazing! Tons of choice and all very nice! Would've tried more but got far too full! As for comments on the clientele, it doesn't matter where you go to eat you could always find a few 'rough around the edges people' as I have seen the customers described online! For the price you pay, the choice of food and the fact you can eat as much as you want and stay as long as you want without feeling rushed, I'd say it was worth every penny and would...
Read moreNot been here for a while so while it was school holidays we thought we would go for lunch and let the kids play, the play centre was fine, but the food was terrible, we opted for the prawn cocktail which was smothered in a cheap tangy sauce, had to scrape off the sauce to eat the prawns, the prawns were decent but the bread was a bit dry too. Along came the mains, kids fish bite meal was ok but the burger on the other meal was dry eating. Adult mains came, 2 chicken dinners, should have had cabbage, peas and roasted carrot, crispy roast potatoes, chicken breast, stuffing balls and gravy, the chicken was dry, the worst was the cremated potatoes, they were like rocks, completely burned and dry, there were a couple that when opened up did have some dry potato inside but the rest were solid all the way through, carrots weren't roasted and no signs of any cabbage, we complained and returned the 2 chicken dinners and opted for chicken and rib combo instead, again the chicken was dry, the chips were fine as were the ribs once we scraped off the cheap bbq sauce they were mothered in, the coleslaw was tasteless and the side salad was smothered in a horrible dressing making that inedible too, we had a lovely day out ruined, and it took ages to have 2 courses because of this, it wasn't the waitresses fault, they got the manager and apologized, we didn't bother complaining about the second meal as obviously they don't learn by their mistakes but they would be able to tell when they clear the plates by how much we left, we will not be returning here, it's cheaper and better food if you go to the Carvery up the road so that's where we will go next time. Sorry didn't think to get photos but...
Read moreAbsolutely terrible experience, I regularly use the breakfast when my car needs to be taken to the garage nearby.
I paid for the meal. It was clearly pre cooked or had been under the heat lamp for a long time (I arrived at 8:00 am) their was a thick skin on the yolk of the eggs, the bacon was so hard my knife could not cut through it without force and the sausage skin came away from the filling due to it being so overcooked or overly re heated.
I decided to take it back after a few mouthfuls to enquire about the freshness. I was told the meal was fresh, but if I wasn't happy they could make me another. I showed the server the bacon and she stated that if she made me another the bacon would be the same as "it's all been done like that" which clearly suggested to me it was not fresh and so I asked for a refund, instead opting for the continental breakfast which was fine.
I ate and then left to do some shopping, knowing I would be returning as I had to wait for my car to be ready at the nearby garage. I returned and prior to purchasing a drink needed the toilet and went immediately due to having shopping bags and not wanting to leave them unattended.
What followed was terrible customer service. I was followed into the toilet and whilst using the cubicle a member of staff called in asking if I was okay. Not only was this incredibly embarrassing, I found it incredibly rude due to the implied tone.
I left the toilet, and purchased a drink until needing to collect my car. In the past my family have regularly used their breakfast, but I will never come back again due to this...
