We visited the Cricketers which was a party of 6. The table had been booked but when we arrived the waiter took us to are table which had not been set. We ordered drinks and food but after half an hour we had not received any drinks and had to ask for them. The pub seemed very quiet with not many customers so we couldn't see why it was taking so long. Staff kept giggling and chasing in the kitchen and didn't seem to be working much at all. What was very distracting was the very loud music coming from the kitchen area, also the laughing and shouting of staff, at first we assumed there was a function going on. Every time the kitchen door opened it was so noisy that we could not hear the people talking on our table and had to stop talking until the door was closed. I asked the waiter if it was a party and he said no it was the kitchen staff in the kitchen and we stressed how loud it was, he said yes I know but it is not for him. This is very unprofessional of staff and extremely inconsiderate for customers trying to enjoy a nice meal out. We had ordered starter but when they arrived only part of the order arrived and had to wait at least 10 minutes before the remaining order came. We had to ask for spoons to eat soup and get some knives and forks. In the meantime the table next to us returned one of their meal because the fish was dry and one of the meals had be over cooked and he told us it was like cardboard. At this point he recommended going to a different pub because the food was much better by far. One of the waiters was shouting down the pub for orders at the bar so again a very distracting and unprofessional way of staff working. Again I asked about the loud music saying it was awful to have to keep hearing this every time the kitchen door was opened. I asked to speak to the manager but he was not at all bothered, he said it is a noisy environment and because not many customers were in the pub is why we were hearing the kitchen more. This is a lame excuse because I have been in this pub many times and this is not the case. All I can say is we found this to be very unprofessional, staff acting like school children, very slow service and what sounded like a high volume disco/ function in the kitchen. I feel that the customer and food preparation was not there priority, it was also pointless speaking to...
Read moreHonestly the standards here have just fallen off a cliff, the food was shocking, a few of the dishes arrived stone cold and particularly the veggie burgers were terrible terrible quality and served really poorly with a sad dry bun and not many extras- it just doesn’t compare to offerings at other pubs around for veggies and vegans, yet the cricketers still charge a huge amount for the poor food that is purely aiming to reach the bare minimum. We also, despite attempting to keep a cheery atmosphere even with the shoddy food (due to it being a birthday celebration), also had to wait upwards of 30 minutes for a round of drinks (not cocktails or anything crazy, just lemonades and beers), didn’t get any offers of a second round of drinks at any point during the meal, weren’t offered dessert and after asking for the bill and then waiting 45 minutes (!!!) a member of our party went to the bar to see if someone could bring it over please, and the member of staff who was obviously higher up (wearing a button up shirt), brought it over and slammed the dish on the table saying viciously and rudely ‘I was talking to a CUSTOMER!’ And turning and storming away- while we were attempting to discuss the matter of us waiting the best part of an hour for it hence why we went up to the bar to ask for the bill again (understandably!). It was incredibly rude, we were also ‘customers!’ attempting to enjoy a family birthday meal but we felt completely forgotten, not looked after and treated rudely with this furthered by overpriced unpleasant food. Many many pubs and restaurants in the area that treat their customers with respect and provide better food at a reasonable price. I really hope this changes as it’s somewhere we enjoyed visiting in the past and is a...
Read moreIf you are looking to go and enjoy a first social occasion of lunch with friends after lockdown, then look elsewhere.
We arrived and were greeted by a member of staff who took us to our table, it seemed like he didn't want to be there and had no personality at all, I'm sure him being back at work after all the time off was tough.
We ordered our food and we specified that we wanted it to come together and the waitress double checked this.
2 dishes arrived and my friends ate the mediocre food and finished. I asked where our food was and the guy serving us looked confused and said oh you want it all together to which I explained we had clearly asked for this. I then got told 'it's on its way now sorry for the SHORT wait' 10 minutes later our food arrived and again the quality was poor for what was being charged. It was edible but that's as far as I would go.
No check back was done for any of the meals which is standard practice in any eatery. Every time we needed anything we had to flag a staff member down as they were too busy having a social with eachother near the outside bar.
When we eventually got the bill I again had to ask to pay, no checkback was done again, no common courtesy from arrival to exit.
I couldn't even raise my concerns at the time as the lack of care by any staff was overpowering.
It wasn't that busy we visited on a Wednesday lunchtime. Not to mention that as an industry that's been shut for the best part of a year you would think encouraging the return of customers would be key. Clearly not.
It's a nice looking pub with a nice garden. If you have all day and just want a drink you could go here. Don't waste your money on anything else.
I'd give less than 1...
