Was excited to finally get around to trying Versova; great reviews and always good to support new / local businesses. Ordered & paid online arrived at the suggested time and they confirmed I had ordered online and to take a seat.
Unfortunately I was kept waiting nearly 40 minutes which initially I thought was due to being pretty busy but after having had enough and asking who I assumed was the manager he said he would check and came back immediately with the food, which I then discovered at home was stone cold, clearly it was left waiting most of this time and nobody remembered or even thought to check which was very odd as I was literally sat at the bar / waiting area myself in full view of all their staff.
The wait time in total was therefore over an hour and this is no exaggeration as I could even recite the 4 tables who arrived to be sat plus everyone's drink orders, which staff then arrived for their evening shift and was tempted to help out given how bored I was.
I had called, not wanting to just post a review right away, to give a chance to make amends but was effectively told 'what do you want us to do about it?' without even an apology when they would have known for sure it was their mistake. Pretty much dismissed over the phone being told to send an email as they are busy with a restaurant full of customers (guess we don't count anymore) which again was just replied with a vague offer to send vouchers (still no sign and assuming this will also be forgotten) again with no acknowledgement or apology. Super disappointed to say the least, being the easiest customer they have to deal with; only needing to carry a bag from the kitchen to the door having handled everything else online.
All for them being successful but clearly struggling to cope, perhaps with this review giving potential customers second thoughts they will end up with a more manageable customer base.
Real shame as the food (after reheating) was decent thus why the 2 stars...
Read moreWow!!! If you want to experience the kind of fine dining experience available only at the top Indian restaurants in Mayfair, but at prices more akin to what all good local gastro-pubs are charging (£17 - £23 for main courses) then this is the place. We went there for the first time last night, recommended by friends - and we couldn’t believe it. Firstly, the ambience, decor and service are right up there. We were greeted by the owner Shahab and his maitre ‘d Cley at the door. By the end of the meal, we were so impressed we insisted on thanking the chef, and were treated to the entire kitchen team! What a team! All the staff are clearly highly experienced professionals, having worked in the very top restaurants both here and abroad - BUT - to get down to it: the food, the food!! The last (and only) time my wife and I ate such entirely authentic Indian cuisine was in the swish upmarket Bollywood district of Juhu, Mumbai. High-street curry this is not! At Versova you can actually taste the freshness and authentic, unique ingredients. Portions are scaled according to the richness of the food, and boy, is this rich!! And all in a small village just minutes from Woking town center?! We travelled forty five minutes from Cranleigh, passed dozens of ‘Indians’ on the way, and will happily make the pilgrimage again - in a heartbeat. Top, top food, ambience and service at very reasonable prices. Spread the word! PS Why such a glowing review? With so many hospitality venues either closing or overpricing, we need restaurants like this and people who make such exhausting efforts to go the extra mile (make that ten miles!). They deserve our support and recognition. I believe Versova has maintained a consistent 4.9 rating since it opened nearly a year ago? Go on...
Read moreWhat a little gem! The first thing you notice is the lovely warm inviting decor from the moment you enter the restaurant. Tastefully kitted out with artificial blossoms, nice panelling and mirror and exposed brickwork effect walls. Combined with the mood lighting this instantly creates a lovely ambience in the restaurant that greets you.
Great service from the outset unrivalled to any other locally. We were offered complimentary Ghol Gappay (hollow sphere shaped shell filled with a finely diced potato, onion, peas, and chickpea spiced with tamarind chutney / chili powder I think) whilst we considering our menu options. The service was top notch and the quality of the experience was was in the detail - the tableware, lamps on each table, cleanliness and attentive of the staff and more than likely a highly experienced chef/owners with experience in upmarket hotel/restaurants.
The food didn’t disappoint ether and prices were very reasonable. They didn’t have any mocktails on the menu but were only too happy to oblige and offered to make us a passion fruit drink.
We went on a Wednesday evening and the place was already near full. They offer a wraps/street food offering at lunchtimes and Sunday roast so we plan to come back for another visit soon.
Thoroughly impressed with what was a lovely surprise evening arranged by my husband. Well...
